Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be in person located in the Tartan gym on February 10th starting at 3:30 and running until 7:30pm. We will hand out report cards for your students when you arrive before meeting with teachers. This is a great time to meet face to face with the people that are educating your children and see/hear about the great things your children are doing. We are always trying to improve our attendance at this event so please take time to come out and have a conversation with your student(s) teachers. We hope to see you all there!

Jacobsen Qualifies for State FCCLA STAR
FCCLA Member Shayla Jacobsen traveled to Wayne State College, Wednesday, January 26, for the District 8 FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Competition. She returned as a state qualifier in the Repurpose Redesign project “Spindle Shelf”. She received 2nd place and a gold medal.
Jacobsen took apart an old chair with spindles and used it with scrap lumber to create a Spindle Shelf for her bedroom. As required for her presentation, she created a display board to document her work. She was required to include examples of recycled items, cost itemization, a picture storyboard, materials list, and a marketing plan. Her speech needed to include information on how she created the project along with a discussion on her marketing plan, environmental components, and how the project relates to FCS coursework and an FCCLA National Program, all while referencing her project and display board. Her presentation concluded with interview questions from the judges.
To advance to the state competition, members must place 1st or 2nd in their event while receiving scores within a specified range. The State FCCLA STAR Competition will be held in Lincoln, April 3-5, in conjunction with the FCCLA State Conference.
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities. Competitive events promote the FCCLA Mission to focus on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader. Each event and activity are designed to help members develop specific lifetime skills in character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. Competitive events provide additional opportunities to showcase college and career-ready knowledge, skills, and abilities; promote the FCCLA chapter as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education program; and to connect with peers and the community.
