September and October Character Education

For the month of September, we kicked off Character Education at Lakeside. The trait for the month was Kindness. 5th period teachers facilitated discussions about the definition, consequences and emotions of Bullying. Students created an action plan if they witness bullying or is a victim of Bullying. All students agree that Bullying is an epidemic in schools that can be stopped if they decide to be an upstander.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month as well as Positive Attitude Month (ASCA National Education Health Awareness). Our character trait for the month is "Assertiveness" 5th period teachers will facilitate two lessons that involve visualizing a better life and walking in someone else's shoes. For more information on Character Education, contact your child's grade level counselor.

Clohe-A-Child Fundraiser

The counseling department sponsored Hat Day to help raise funds for Clothe-A-Child. Students paid $1 to wear a hat all day. We were able to raise $74. Clothe-a-Child joins Kohls to provide clothing needs for underprivileged youth in elementary and middle school. If you want to volunteer to help with Clothe-a-Child, click on the following link.

A group of LMS students have volunteered to become RAKtivists who are inspired by random acts of kindness. These students believe that kindness can really change the world and exemplify this in their day -to- day life and by performing kindness raids each month at Lakeside. For the month of September, each RAKtivist completed the 21 day kindness challenge. The counseling department announced a daily kindness tasks for students to complete. RAKtivist did each tasks and convinced their friends to join in. Next month, RAKtivist will conduct another kindness raid that involves positive gossip.

Students can still become RAKtivist by coming to monthly meetings and signing up on the below website.
