December in Review and Looking Ahead into January
Hello Wonderful Families!
Buddy Activity- Buddy classes enjoyed a Polar Express movie day before winter break. In January, we will work with Mr. Kessel, one of our STEM teachers, to create a Keva Plank domino challenge.
Winter Program- Our 1st-3rd graders did a spectacular job in their Winter Program! Thanks to all families who attended and and staff members who helped Mrs. Nobel.
No School- January 2nd and 3rd there is No School! SDOW faculty and staff have professional development planned for those two days. The first day back for students is Monday, January 6th.
January 6th-Happy New Year Back to School kickoff assembly in the gym at 8:00. Students and staff are allowed to wear a Happy New Year headband and are being asked to dress nice. We will sit with buddy classes during the assembly to learn about goal setting and resolutions, as well as information regarding our behavior Matrix. Students will also enjoy a fine dining experience with soft music and candlelight during lunch.
January 7th- Behavior Bootcamp! Students and staff should dress in CAMO and boots for a full day of Matrix review and videos showcasing student examples and staff non-examples of Matrix Behaviors.
PTG-Thanks to all who visited Panera Bread. Our next Dine to Donate is 1/16 at Panda Express from 11:00-9:00. The next PTG meeting is Tuesday, 1/28 at 5:00 p.m. in the conference room. Don't forget to check out the PTG bulletin boards in the entrance breezeway with information regarding meetings and fundraising.
Six Flags- Six Flags reading logs were sent home in November with information about the program as well as how to log hours online to receive a free Six Flags ticket. Reading logs are due April 1st. Remember, the 6 hours of reading must be recreational reading, not assigned reading. Contact your child's classroom teacher or Mrs. Meyer if you have any questions.
6th grade DARE with Officer Burke starts January 7th. This is a 10 week educational program that seeks to prevent use of controlled drugs, membership in gangs, and violent behavior. DARE graduation will be a special evening ceremony in March or April, with dinner provided for our DARE graduates and their families. More information will be shared in the February newsletter.
Attendance Challenge for January- Classrooms with 95% or higher attendance for the month will earn a Spirit Day of their choice (PJ Day, Hat Day, etc.). If you have any questions, let me know!
