Book Access Ideas
Resources for Getting Books into Students' Hands
Briarwood Library Checkout
Almost every Thursday and/or Friday the BW library is open for book check out. Families can either sign up for a slot via SignUp Genius and let Ms. Threlkeld know which books they are interested in when they arrive OR email a list of requested titles to Ms. Threlkeld and she will have them ready for families to pickup at any time during open hours. Generally, an email with all of the checkout information goes out to families on Sunday afternoon. This is how you will access the SignUp Genius link and find out the hours for that week.

King County Library System - KCLS
KCLS offers lots of fabulous resources! Since all ISD students have KCLS accounts, they can access lots of databases related to reading, as well as check out ebooks and audiobooks.
Click on this link to get to the database homepage: https://kcls.org/elementary-school-students/
From there, scroll down to either the database section or the eBooks/Audiobooks section. To log in, enter 411 followed by your 7-digit ISD student ID number (also your lunch number). The pin number is the last 4 digits of your student ID.
KCLS also offers curbside pickup of books and other materials. Place holds on books in the catalog, request the branch where you'd like to pick up your items, and then schedule a day/time to pick up your books once KCLS emails you that they are ready.
Little Free Libraries
Explore your neighborhood in search of Little Free Libraries! I know of at least 1 near Briarwood. Use the official website to locate libraries: https://littlefreelibrary.org/ourmap/
Who knows what treasures you will find?!
Book Swap
If you have children's books at your home that no one is reading, you may want to reach out to other families and ask about swapping titles. Or just set up a way to borrow books from one another.
Epic!
Epic offers eBooks and audiobooks for free to educators, so if your classroom teacher has an account, you can use it for FREE during school hours. If your teacher doesn't have an account, you can encourage them to create one - it doesn't cost them anything and is very simple. You can also contact Ms. Threlkeld and she will share her access code with you.
