Campus Lockdown Drill
During the week of August 22nd, Newton Collins will conduct a lockdown drill. The purpose of this drill is for students and staff to practice processes and procedures should an emergency on campus occur. Several police officers will be present to lead our campus in the drill. Teachers will review the processes and procedures for a lockdown drill with your students prior to the drill.
Please assist us in reminding your student that a drill will take place this week, however; we will not announce an exact day or time for the drill. Also, please note that no one will be allowed on or off the campus during the drill. There will be signs posted to notify anyone who might be attempting to visit the campus. If you have any questions, please contact any campus administrator.
Parent information about our Standard Response Protocol is available below.
Teachers will also be provided with a social story to share with students prior to the drill in order to prepare students and have consistent and non-threatening language around what to expect. The social story is available in English and Spanish below for you to review.
SMART Tag for Bus Riders
SMART tag monitors student loading and unloading, providing real-time information to the Transportation Department, and you, the parent.
SMART tag Parent Portal
- SMART Alerts - sign up for SMART Alerts and receive emails or text messages when your child is approximately 10-15 minutes from their stop.
- SMART Locate - allows parents to view a map showing the bus as their child is being
transported.
Transportation Administration When bus activity begins, rider info is immediately available for the transportation administrators, so they can oversee all school bus activity.
Make sure to register! Go to parent.smart-tag.net and register to take advantage of the SMART tag Parent Features. If you are using a smart phone, you will be prompted to save the web app to your home screen. This will place the Parent App tile on your mobile device for easy access.
