SHS Weekly Newsletter #13

11/18/22

Message from Mr. Mitchell

We wish you all a restful and enjoyable week off from school! With the end of the trimester being the week that we return, please encourage your student to use the extra time off from classes to ensure that they are caught up on their assignments and studying. Most courses will have some form of a cumulative assessment during the week of 11/29-12/2/2022. When our teachers return to school on Monday, 11/29, they will be able to answer any questions that students have before the end of the trimester.

Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!

Mr. Mitchell

Important Upcoming Dates

Fall Musical - Tuck Everlasting

What would you do if you had all eternity? Eleven-year-old Winnie Foster yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined. When Winnie learns of the magic behind the Tuck’s unending youth, she must fight to protect their secret from those who would do anything for a chance at eternal life. As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.

The performances are November 17th, 18th and 19th at 7:00pm at the SHS Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Buy tickets on-line here: http://bowmentheatre.com/tickets/

Finals Week Schedule 11/28-12/2

Big picture
Final exams are coming up on Thursday, December 1st and Friday, December 2nd. During finals, we do not send notes to students, ensuring that exams are interruption free. This means we will not dismiss students for appointments of any kind, and will not take deliveries of any kind for students. Help make sure your student/s are prepared with everything they need (notes, extra paper, calculators, final projects, lunch, etc.). Please help us in creating the optimum environment for Finals. For the half day on Friday, students will be released at 12:20. If they want to eat lunch, it will be served in the commons prior to bus departure at 12:45.

AP Coordinator

Thank you to all who have paid their student's AP fees. I believe all our students have completed the required online registration.

If you have a student who is planning on NOT taking the AP exam in May, please let me know ASAP. AP imposes an additional S40 fee to any changes made after Nov 13. So, if your student decides to not take the exam I will be able to credit your account all but $40. Look for the email I sent with more detailed information.

Feel free to contact me with questions. Bfarwell@sherwood.k12.or.us

Transportation Department Updates

  • Snow Routes are posted on our Transportation Department page and can be found here. When Snow Routes are activated, service will be limited on all routes except for 1, 8, 9, 12, 14, and 18, which will not be affected. For all other routes, please review if your stop will be impacted during an inclement weather event.

  • After Thanksgiving break, rural routes will service all grade levels together in order to improve the arrival time to our secondary schools. All route changes will be reflected in the Ride 360 app on Tuesday, November 22nd and will take effect on Monday, November 28th. Regardless of whether or not you live in a rural area, check the Ride 360 app because your bus stop time may change. If you do not have the Ride 360 app, you can find directions on how to install the app and register your student(s) at the link below. You will need your student(s) ID number(s) and the birthdate(s) must be entered in the following format MM/DD/YYYY.

Girls Golf Pre-Season Meeting

There will be a meeting in the Community Room on November 30th at 2:30 with Coach McDonald for returning golfers and those interested in participating in the Sherwood Girls Golf program.

Sherwood Education Foundation's "Clicking 4 Kids" Campaign

The Sherwood Education Foundation (SEF) was formed to enrich and enhance the quality of education in the Sherwood School District by distributing grant funds to individual teachers, and by funding programs that support the District’s vision for educational excellence. Because of community support, in the last six years alone SEF has awarded 98 teacher grants totaling over $323,000. Whether it's Sensory Paths, Ozbot Evo Robots, Oregon Battle of the Books, kiln restoration or a PE equipment reboot for the High School, SEF is committed to and will continue to be there for our teachers and their students.

SEF's annual Clicking for Kids fundraiser campaign is now open and will run through November 30th, providing you an opportunity to help continue this incredible support for our Sherwood students and teachers. SEF’s continued success is only made possible with your support! 100% of your donation goes directly back to funding teacher grants at all grade levels.

Please partner with Sherwood Education Foundation and donate today!
