CHHS Working to Become a "Common Sense Recognized" Campus '19-'20
What is commonsense.org?
Last year, the GCISD technology department set a goal to become a "Common Sense Education Recognized" district. Part of reaching that goal and earning the recognition is that each campus fulfill requirements designated by Common Sense Education.
Several times throughout the '19-'20 school year, students have participated in lessons provided by Common Sense Education. To view specific dates, lesson topics, & other resources, click on each section below.
Anyone can sign up for a FREE account at https://www.commonsense.org/education/ to view and/or use a variety of FREE resources.

Teen Voices: Who Are You on Social Media?
Teens love to pick and choose how they present themselves to the world. Sometimes they might take a pic and share it in the moment -- other times they might decide to only post a carefully staged photo.
In this video, you'll hear teens reflect on how they make some of these choices as they curate their social media lives. Encourage your students to think critically about the self they're presenting on social media, and the self they're aiming to be.

In this lesson, Getting to know someone online, without nonverbal cues or being able to see them, can be risky -- from simple misunderstandings to manipulation. Help students navigate and avoid these situations before they go too far.

Many of us are aware that we're being tracked when we go online. It's one of the ways our favorite websites and apps know how to recommend content just for us. But how much information are companies actually collecting? And what are they doing with it? Digging into the details can help us make smart decisions about our online privacy and how to protect it.

How can we act with empathy and positivity when we're online?
Lesson Overview
We've all faced thorny situations where what we say or do could potentially harm or hurt someone. Being honest is important, but is there such a thing as being too honest? Sometimes, innocent -- but insensitive -- comments can easily escalate to digital drama or even cyberbullying. Help students recognize and navigate these types of situations that happen online.
