MAY 26th, 2016
What's Up in 4th Grade!
Congratulations to our new 5th Grade Student Council board members!
President: Kaaviya
Vice President: Jesse
Secretary: Emily
Parliamentarian/Treasurer: Akhil
A big thanks to all of the students that ran in the election. We were so very proud to see the initiative and effort students made during this process. There will also be another opportunity to run as 5th grade class representatives in the fall.
We are finished with our MAP testing for this year!
All library books were due by Friday, May 20th. Please ask your child if they received a note from Mrs. Geiler for any overdue books.
Please scroll down to see two different flyers for Parenting Workshops during the summer. Here is a link about parenting workshops.

Make sure that your child is reading 20 minutes every night and recording it in their planner. A parent signature is also required to ensure this process.
Language Arts
Our students will finish their Creative Problem Solution by developing a persuasive speech that gives background information to others about their problem and poses a unique solution to the specific problem. They will also develop an oral presentation for their class where they try to obtain acceptance of others to sell their best idea.
As a year-end culminating activiey, we will be reflecting back on fourth grade and signing yearbooks.
Math
Next week, students will complete the Step Up to Grade 5 Lessons. These lessons will preview important content and help prepare our students for the next grade level. Students will learn to break composite shapes into smaller parts, then find the areas using the appropriate formulas. To find the area of the entire figure, students will find the sum of the areas of the smaller shapes. We will then expand on what students know about two-dimensional figures to work with three dimensional figures, or solids to find volume.
Science and Social Studies
Our students are identifying the similarities and differences of various cultural groups in the development of Texas. They will also summarize the cultural contributions of various groups and create a brochure advertising their festival.
From the Teachers
- Reading Logs: 4th grade participates in our Skaggs reading program, The Skaggs Scribe. We require that every student read at least 20 minutes per night and record their time in their planner. Please sign your child's agenda every Friday and students will enter their time on a Google Form where they could win prizes. They may enter this information at school or at home. This is the website students will use to record their minutes: http://tinyurl.com/SkaggsReadingLog
- We would like to encourage your child to bring their electronic devices. Electronic devices are being used in all subject areas every day, along with music and art.
- Be a star for our students and write a check to our PTA. See the information below regarding the Skaggs PTA Check Writing Campaign.
