A Wonderful Week of Learning and Creating!

We have had a full week of engaging in using our creativity! We kicked off the week with the Hour of Code creating computer programs! Students then used their research, reading and writing skills to create a google slide of their own to present to the class information about the Colonial Trade that they chose to research and represent in Colonial Williamsburg. Today, students created their own shop to correspond with their Colonial Trade as we placed all of the buildings together to create a colonial village. We invited our fellow fourth grade friends to tour our colonial village today.

Readers have been eager to see how "The War with Grandpa" plays out. It has led to interesting discussions as to how people can resolve conflict and is a perfect lead in to our next unit on the Revolutionary War.

Writers have been working on adding figurative language to their writing.

Mathematicians have been working on mastering long division and writing and solving multi-step word problems.

As social scientists, students are making connections between people in the past and people today. The Pilgrims came to the New World seeking religious freedom and that is still a reason people come to America today. Students are also making connections to how people in the past had conflicts and how they resolved those conflicts.

Our winter party will be Friday, Dec. 18 from 1:30-2:30 pm. I sent our a sign up genius email week ago Sunday, but have heard from a few children that their parents never received the email. Our school email has been compromised and many in the district are having trouble receiving as well as sending emails. I did see that the slots were filled up (with the exception of a slot for baked chips) . Technology is wonderful when it works:) We should be good to go for Friday!

I hope that you all have a wonderful, restful holiday break! Enjoy the time off from school reading some terrific books, catching up on sleep and just enjoying the time with each other:)

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and many blessings in the New Year!
