Advanced Band Solo & Ensemble Contest Success

Most of our Advanced Band students participated in the Solo & Ensemble contest at Austin Academy on Saturday. This the first in-person contest of this kind for ALL of them and we are SO proud of the way they prepared for this event, represented themselves and our school during the event, and the success they achieved through these performances. Everyone is a stronger musician now than when they started preparing for this contest and we couldn't be more proud! We came home with 84 first division medals, 8 second division ribbons, 15 outstanding soloist nominations, and 7 outstanding soloist winners (more than any other GISD school)! Congratulations!!!

Be Aware - New Parking Changes at Hudson

  • In order to better ensure the safety of students, and to assist with the movement of traffic, No Parking/Standing/Stopping between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm signs will be placed in the 4400 block of Hudson Drive on both the north and south sides of the road. This will be in effect on school days only.
  • These signs will be installed Monday, February 21, 2022. These will be added in addition of the current No Parking signs. If you are picking up your students, please join one of the student pick-up lines for both schools (remember, Hudson Middle School is also releasing students to the rear drive of the school as well). If you have to park, please utilize either the gravel or paved lots of Heritage Park. Please review the attached map to see where these signs will be placed.
  • Winter 50 Day Challenge OVER - SIGNED FORMS DUE TUESDAY

All students who completed the 50 day winter practice challenge and turn in their signed form by Tuesday are invited to a donut party before school on Thursday, February 24 (beginning at 8:15am) and can stay after school on Thursday, February 24 until 5:30pm for a board game party.

    Band Fee Payments

Please take a moment this week to login to your student's Charms account. Make sure to login as a Parent/Student/Member. You will need to use hudsonsoundmachine as the school code. Student passwords should be either just the 6-digit ID number (for first time logins), sID# (that students are used to), capitalized first and last initials plus ID# (HB123456), or something different you or your student has chosen. If you need help resetting a password, please let me know. When you ask for a password to be reset, I will change it to CAPITALIZED first and last initial followed by student ID# (ex. HB123456).

After logging in, you can see payments due in the financial tab, make changes to personal information, see uniform parts that have been checked out, school-owned instrument information, and more.

Spring Band fees are now past due. Please make every effort to take care of this payment ASAP. If you have a financial hardship, please communicate that with us so we can help!

    Instrument Usage Fees in Skyward

If your student plays a school-owned instrument (oboe, bassoon, tenor/bari sax, French horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, and select others), their district school-owned instrument usage fee is reflected in their Skyward account now.

We have had to send many instruments to the repair shop this year and this fee helps pay for those repairs and regular maintenance. Please help make sure we can continue repairing instruments as needed by submitting this district fee. These directions to submit an online payment in Skyward should help you with completing that payment. Please let Mrs. Becker know if you have questions.

    What Should We Be Practicing?

Practicing should happen daily to help build coordination and muscle memory and retain progress. Students should practice sitting in a real chair (preferably one that doesn't roll/spin), using a music stand, with a metronome. Please make sure woodwind players are properly swabbing out their instrument at the end of every practice session to keep their instruments clean!

Are You Handy? Like to Build Things?

I have grand visions of organizing our percussion storage room over the next few weeks because it's too small and we have too much equipment. If you happen to be handy and want to help build shelves for our cymbals, drum pads, and drum stands, please let me know! This picture is similar to what I have in mind.
