A Peek at Next Week
Reading - Students will be reviewing and practicing story elements this week. They will practice determining the problem and resolution of a story, along with the important events that the plot follows. Students must be able to determine which events are important to the plot and be able to sequence them.
Writing - Writers will use timelines this week as an additional tool in determining small moment writing ideas. Students will, by week end, pick a story from their notebook to develop outside of the notebook with detail and accuracy.
Math - Students continue working with equivalent fractions. We will then focus on comparing fractions, those with like and unlike denominators. Students will use a fraction kit as a tool to compare. Problem solving with fractions will be embedded in our math block every day.
Science - Magnetism and gravity
Social Studies - Map skills, including using directions and map keys.
Our class will go on a field trip Thursday, October 22nd. We will be visiting West Bay Common School, a one room schoolhouse. My students always enjoy learning about the history of the schoolhouse while living a day in the shoes of a child from the 1860s. They will have reading, math, and writing lessons, and learn about recess from that time.
Please be sure to send them with a lunch. If they need to purchase a lunch from the cafeteria, that's fine too. I will be sending a lunch request note this week.
Space is limited and it is teacher led. Therefore, no parent chaperones are needed. We will have another field trip in the spring that parents will be able to attend.
