Light Up The Library

JS Library - Makerspace "M@ke IT @ the JS Library"

SEARCH - ASK - LEARN - CONNECT

The Book Week theme this year connected many areas of the curriculum. In particular possible connections with STEM are exciting. As in previous years the classes examined the Shortlisted Books 2015 and voted on these.

As a class activity each class constructed a lantern (or lanterns) which displayed their interpretation of the theme “Books Light Up Our World”.

These lanterns are on display in the JS Library during Book Week (Week 7).

See below for the many lunchtime activities students had the opportunity to be involved in.

The concept behind the activities in the JS Makerspace is to combine literature, libraries and STEM and hands-on tinkering with the theme for the term "Books Light Up Our World" and "Light Up the Library".

Students in Year 1 and Year 5 are exploring the principles of Light and Sound in their Units of Inquiry. Read more at the blog links below.

Year 1 Central idea: Light and sound helps us to experience our world.

Year 5 Central idea: Light and sound help us express ideas and feelings.
