2020 Mid-Penn XC Championships – Boy’s Preview
Class A/AA Preview:
Like Brayden Harris in AAA, Weber Long has run sub-16 minutes at least twice this year already and could go under that mark again this weekend. Long ran the fastest time amongst all Mid-Penn runners at the 2019 district meet when he placed 2nd in class AA going 15:49. He won the class AA title at PIAA Foundation this season and ran the 2nd fastest time overall for the day. He is the heavy favorite in the class A/AA race and is likely one of the top 2 runners in the state class AA.
Teammates Evan Kase and Gibran Varahrami, both seniors at Boiling Springs, have a chance at top 3 finishes. Ethan Jones (sr) and Tommy Crum (so) could also place in the top 10 for Boiling Springs. Boiling Spring is the favorite to take home the class A/AA team title.
Other athletes looking for top 5 to top 10 finishes include the Trinity trio of Jack Warner (sr), Jasper Burd (jr), and Connor Pushart (jr), Big Spring’s Blake Wenger (fr) and Trevor Richwine (jr), Middletown’s William Brown (sr), and East Pennsboro’s Elijah McKell (jr).
The battle for the 2nd team qualifying spot at Districts appears to be wide open, with numerous teams in contention.

Mid-Penn Cross Country Notebook: Boiling Springs' Peyton Ellis dominates small-school race; 4 county teams in 2A, 3A make districts
NEWVILLE — Eventually, Boiling Springs sophomore Peyton Ellis might get used to being the chased rather than the chaser.
That hasn’t happened yet.
“I never enjoy that because I don’t really see myself as that runner, I just see myself as Peyton,” she said Saturday. “So, it’s weird when people think of me as this runner that I don’t see myself as. So, it’s just kind of surreal in a sense. I am really nervous myself all the time, and no one really expects that.”
Even if she sees herself as Peyton, she is also “that runner.” Ellis left the rest of the Class 1A/2A field in the dust Saturday morning at Big Spring High School, cruising to a Mid-Penn Cross Country Championship gold in 19:38.72. She was more than a minute faster than second-place Katryn Yocum (20:59.70), her teammate.

News and Notes: Mid-Penn Capital
Boiling Springs-Middletown an intriguing match-up
Plenty of meat on the bone when undefeated Boiling Springs pays a visit to War Memorial Field in Middletown Friday to tangle with the 1-1 Blue Raiders in 4th Down Magazine's Game of the Week. Middletown lost its game last week with Camp Hill because of COVID-19 issues, so the Blue Raiders have been sitting on a loss for two weeks. Yeah, I’m pretty sure those practices just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike are getting a bit edgy. The Bubblers are a splendid feel-good story so far in 2020 after ending an 11-game losing streak to open the season then piling on a couple more victories. The strange part is Middletown has plenty of questions to answer, too. Very intriguing matchup.

Middletown Teammates of the Week
Week of October 18, 2020
Josiah Rosario, Varsity Cross Country, 10th - Respect
“Josiah’s positive energy constantly keeps the coaches and team smiling. He is not only well-respected by our newer athletes, but is a strong leader as only a sophomore- observed giving pep talks to younger runners, and feedback on stretches and running form. He is a great role model during practices and his work ethic is one to be mirrored.” ~ Coach Devine
Brenden Wegert, Football, 8th – Perseverance
“Brenden Wegert is a year younger than most of his teammates and opponents. Brenden dedicated himself to summer workouts and made solid, steady progress. Brenden broke his arm during a game but never missed a practice. Brenden is extremely coachable, popular with his coaches and teammates and consistently displays good sportsmanship. Brenden is admired for his dedication and determination. Brenden is also an excellent student and a shining example of Raider Pride.” ~ Coach Pettis
MAMS Cross Country Team, Cross Country, 7-8th – Excellence
“This week, the entire Junior High Cross Country Team has earned the distinction of teammates of the week. At their home meet last Wednesday, every single runner improved his or her time from the previous race (some more than two minutes!). All of the student athletes on the team have been working hard all season and will continue to push into this, our final week of the season to give it their all at Hershey.” ~ Coach Yeich & Coach Smith
Each week, Student-Athletes, Coaches and Faculty can nominate someone they feel is a great teammate for the past week.
The week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday at midnight. The list will be collected Monday of the next week and published to all the coaches and faculty members at Middletown area High School each Tuesday.
What makes a good teammate? Multiple reasons!
Here is a great quote by Kobe Bryant that can help sum it up:
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot."
The Blue Raiders instill the following leadership qualities P,R,I,D,E. When nominating a fellow Blue Raider, please list one of these qualities in your description.
P-erseverance, R-espect, I-ntegrity, D-iscipline, E-xcellence
