Tips and Tricks

Create Folders
  • Tap and hold your finger down on an app until they all start to jiggle, then drag one app over another and release.
Access All Running Apps
  • Double tap the Home button.
  • All the apps that are running can be seen on the bottom task bar.

Closing Apps

  • Double tap the Home button.
  • All the apps that are running can be seen on the bottom task bar.
  • Hold your finger down on the app you want to close.
  • Apps will start shaking and a red minus sign will appear in the top left-hand corner of the app icon.
  • Tap the red minus sign.

Delete an App

  • Hold your finger down on the app you want to delete until all the apps start to shake.
  • Once the icons start shaking, you will also see an X appear in the top left-hand corner of each app.
  • Touch the X on the app you wish to delete.

Orientation Lock

  • Double tab the Home button.
  • Slide the task bar to the right.
  • Tap the lock button in the bottom left-hand corner.

Control iPad Notifications

  • Go to Settings > Notifications, and configure which alerts (and accompanying sounds) will appear.

Quick Volume Mute

  • Press and hold the volume down button for about two seconds, then you get a quick mute.

Caps Lock

  • Double click on the shift key on either side of the keyboard.

Copy and Paste

  • Hold your finger on a word. When the maginfying glass appears, release your finger and you'll see a highlighted area appear on the text. Use the small circular icons to select the range of text, then tap the Copy button. You can then paste this text into another app or text field.

Web Clip Icon to Home Screen

  • Open the web site
  • Tap the share button (box with arrow shooting out of the top)
  • Select Add to Home Screen
  • Name the site
  • Select the blue Add button

Change Mail Signature

  • Open Settings
  • Choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Find Signature and type whatever you wish for a signature

Side Switch

  • You can use the side switch on the iPad to either lock the screen orientation or mute the sound.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Choose the General tab > Choose either Lock Rotation or Mute.

Lock your iPad

  • Press the On/Off switch on the top right corner of the iPad
  • To unlock, press the Home button.
  • You can set your iPad to auto-lock after 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, or never.
  • Tap on the Settings icon.
  • Choose the General tab > Auto-Lock > Make a selection.

Set a Passcode

  • You can also set a passcode that must be entered before the iPad will unlock.
  • Tap on the Settings icon.
  • Choose the General tab > Passcode Lock > turn on
  • Enter a four-digit passcode once, and again to confirm it.
