Hello Gator Family!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Please come out an support our Gators for our Soccer Games this week!
Our 2nd week of STAAR testing went well and we appreciate your support in getting students to school on time. We have more testing this week. Please see the important information below regarding dates, visitors and deliveries. Our students have worked hard throughout the entire year and we know they will do the same during testing.
The MCJH WAAG (Week At A Glance) is at the bottom of the newsletter with an overview of the week for each grade level.

STAAR Testing/Campus Closed to Visitors/Deliveries
I have listed all STAAR testing dates below. Remember that students need to come to school prepared to do their best work and ensure they have a good breakfast. Students should not bring stuffed animals, blankets or anything that could disrupt the learning environment.
The campus will be closed to visitors and will not be able to accept deliveries for students. This includes lunch deliveries as students will not be following a normal schedule. Students need to ensure they have everything they need for the day when they leave in the morning.
It is extremely important that students are on time and present on STAAR days, so please plan accordingly. Please try to avoid early check-out as well on these days. We cannot disrupt the testing environment.
There will be additional dates for Make Up Testing!
May 2nd -> 7th Grade Math & Algebra STAAR
May 3rd -> 6th Grade Math STAAR
May 9th -> 8th Grade Math STAAR
Student Safety Survey: Action Required for Opt Out
Senate Bill 2050, passed during the 87th legislative session, requires school districts to collect information annually through student surveys on bullying/cyberbullying and use the survey results to develop action plans to address student concerns. All Katy ISD students in 4th-12th grade will be invited to participate in an online survey administered by outside research firm, K12 Insight, anytime between May 3-24.
K12 Insight manages online surveys for school districts nationwide, safeguarding the confidentiality of participants’ responses. Students will be prompted to enter their student ID numbers solely to verify student participation by campus and grade level in an effort to maintain data integrity. K12 Insight will not provide Katy ISD or any outside party with data that connects a participant to his or her survey responses.
Campuses will communicate their specific timeline for students to complete the survey before it opens on May 3, 2023.
Parents may opt their child out of participation by logging in to MyKaty and selecting the KISD Option Portal icon. The opt-out deadline is May 2, 2023.
Parents with questions about the student survey or who wish to provide feedback are encouraged to email studentsurvey@katyisd.org.
Tardy Sweeps & Gator Expectations
Please see the information below regarding Tardy Sweeps as they will continue until further notice. Students are not permitted to run in order to make it to class before the tardy bell. If they are caught running or caught in a Tardy Sweep, they will receive a 4 hour Saturday Detention. Parents please know if a student does not attend their detention, they will be assigned ISS or Parent Shadow. I am aware that these guidelines may appear strict to some, but our students must be in class learning and remain safe.
Parents we need your support! Students need to continue to wear their IDs/Lanyards, arrive to class on time prepared and ready to learn. It is important that they remain in dress code, keep their hands to themselves and be respectful. Please know that we will be tightening up on our discipline procedures. Students who choose not to meet the expectations can assigned: 2 hour ASD, Saturday Detention, Parent Shadowing, ISS and OSS if necessary.
Unfortunately, we have too many students who are not arriving to class on time. This is a safety concern as students need to be supervised at all times. As mentioned we are continuing with our Tardy Sweeps, so please remind your student to arrive to class on time. They have plenty of time to get to there on time.
*Tardy Sweeps Continue*
Students who are not in their assigned classroom at the bell, will be assigned a 4 hour Saturday School Detention. Students who do not attend Saturday Detention will be assigned ISS or Possible Parent Shadow. Students are aware if they were caught in a Tardy Sweep!
End of Year Gator World Bash
Students need to remember to wear their IDs, remain in dress code and arrive to class on time. All grade levels are working towards their End of Year Gator World Bash. Students are able to earn PBIS points in order to purchase a ticket to the event. They must meet the expectations to participate in the event.
Bounce House wrist bands go on sale this week. Please know that money and PBIS refunds will not be given.
From Nurse Brannan
Dear 6th Grade Parents:
The Tdap and Meningitis immunization due forms have been mailed out.
These are usually done with the 11y.o. checkup.
Please check with your MD and send the immunizations in.
The line may be very long next year to turn in the immunizations.
We are giving 36 PBIS points to the students who turn them in.
