"One School One Book" Inspires Students to Give

During the week of March 18th, the BRMS Guidance Department, in collaboration with the One School One Book and Advisory programs, came together with the support of staff, students, BRMS Student Government, and families for a variety of fundraising events during lunchtime. Students raised money to dig a well in South Sudan, a culminating activity that aligned with the theme of this year's One School One Book novel entitled A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Our fundraising efforts included an Advisory Change Wars Challenge with the winning prize awarded to Mr. Duffy's Advisory. Through our Panera fundraiser on March 21-- World Water Day-- we generated additional revenue, bringing the grand total raised to over $1,700! We thank the Chester community for supporting our efforts, and we will continue to accept donations for the Dig-a-Well project. Please contact the Guidance Department with any questions.

Award-Winning Artist Shares his Talent with 7th Grade Students!

BRMS recently hosted the third session of Inspiration Cafe featuring three-time Caldecott winner David Wiesner. The Caldecott Award is given annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Mr. Wiesner was awarded his medals for Tuesday in 1992, The Three Pigs in 2002, and Flotsam in 2006.

Inspiration Cafe offers 7th grade students a lunchtime opportunity to listen to keynote speakers about what inspired them in their personal journeys. The founders of the program, Kenneth Piascik and Joseph Pizzo, hope that by giving the students a chance to hear real-life stories from a variety of fields, the students will be inspired to new hopes, dreams, and success.
