AMHS Weekly Update
March 21, 2022 - March 25, 2022
Career and Technical Student Organizations at AMHS
Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) are a vital part of Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE). CTSOs play an integral role in preparing students to become college and career-ready members of society who hold productive leadership roles in their communities. CTSOs are committed to the growth of students in all CTAE career pathways.
These organizations provide motivation, leadership training, and career development opportunities for students enrolled in Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education programs in middle and high schools and enhance their occupational, employability, and leadership skills through various activities such as conferences, award programs, service projects, and competitive events. These organizations conduct activities and events at the local, state, and national levels in which students can participate and compete.
This month AMHS CTSOs are competing with other CTSOs from around the state at their respective Leadership Conferences. We would like to congratulate both our students and their sponsors for their hard work in preparation for their competition:
Below is the results of some of the competitions that our students have participated in thus far:
Future Business Leaders of America: (Sponsors: Mr. Eric Hurst and Ms. Lawanda Stephens-Sanford)
Zayla Bryant placed 7th in the State at the FBLA State Leadership Conference for her performance in Impromptu Speaking.Health Occupations Student Association: (Sponsor- Mr. Nicholous Gray)
Jayden Phillips, Alasia Cooper, Jalyn Leflore, and Israel Burnell placed in the TOP 5 in State Qualification Testing in our region at the HOSA State Leadership Conference.
State qualifiers will have the opportunity to represent AMHS at the National Conferences this summer. Please continue to cheer on our CTSOs as they compete during the month of March. If you are interested in finding out how your student can participate in our CTSOs for the 22-23 school year, please reach out to their CTAE Pathway teacher for more information.

DCSD Social Media Guidelines for Students
Parents,
It is important that our scholars represent themselves in a positive manner online and think about what they post on social media outlets. One question to always think about is, "Would my post look good to college admissions counselors or employers?" Encourage your student to assume that someone is always observing their online actions.

The Garden’s Summer High School Internship is a seven-week program on Wednesdays-Fridays from 9 am-4 pm from June 1- July 15. We are looking for students who will be 16 years or older by June 1, 2022, who currently attend a metro-Atlanta Title I school. The interns will be paid an hourly wage of $10/hr and also receive lunch, program supplies, shirts, and transportation assistance. Participants get to work alongside our Garden staff from various departments including outdoor horticulture, indoor horticulture, amphibian care team, and conservation team in the mornings; learning about our collections and actively caring for them in the process. Afternoons are devoted to college and career skills sessions that include financial planning, resume building, cooking classes, and public speaking to name a few. In addition, students learn about plant career opportunities outside of the Garden and how to connect with plant-based community service projects throughout the city. At the end of the internship, our interns will produce a personal project to share their acquired knowledge with their cohort, Garden staff, and possibly guests as well.
