Kids Against Hunger
Help Vaughan raise money to feed kids near and far. Students have been encouraged to chat with their parents and see if they can find any loose change at home or in the car that could be put to good use! Grade levels are competing against each other to win a popcorn party and extra recess. How can a grade win? The grade level with the highest number of points at the end of the day on April 14th will be declared the winner! Coins count positively towards the grade level points while paper money counts against the grade level points. All money raised will go towards Kids Against Hunger! April 14th is the last day of the coin drive and the day our Vaughan students will also be helping to pack food bags. Thank you to PTA for coordinating this event!
STAAR Dates in May
We will be administering the STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) test to our 3rd - 6th grade students in May. Students throughout the state of Texas will be taking STAAR during this time. The students will be testing online using their district issued device.
Please do not schedule appointments for your student on days he/she will be testing. Students will not be able to leave the testing environment and return to complete the test.
We appreciate your help and understanding during state testing.

REMINDER - PTA USED BOOK FAIR
Allen Council of PTA's is holding a used book fair. To support their efforts, we will be collecting gently used books at Vaughan. There will be a box in the foyer and/or in front of the MPR to collect these books. Books will be collected from 4/1/22 to 4/22/22. A flyer with more details is below.
Here is a little information about the actual event where families can purchase books.
PURPOSE: Promote literacy by providing families the opportunity to purchase used books at a low cost and provide grants to Allen ISD staff to enhance student experiences in school.
DATES:
➢ April 29th - 12 noon to 7pm
➢ April 30th - 8am to 4pm
LOCATION: Allen ISD Service Center
PRICING:
➢ Paperback books - $1 per book
➢ Hardback books - $2 per book
➢ All sales are tax free!
PROCEEDS:
➢ 50% Staff Grants
➢ 50% Council and Local PTAs

Looking to get Involved? Join the Allen ISD School Health Council!
Are you interested in playing a vital role in our district-wide implementation of a coordinated school health program? Allen ISD is seeking parents who are interested in serving on the district’s School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). The SHAC plays an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning while also assisting AISD in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction.
The Allen ISD SHAC is now accepting applications from parents, guardians, and community members. This is a one-year commitment beginning next school year with a total of four SHAC meetings.

Kindergarten Enrollment is Open
Prekindergarten Update & Enrollment for 2022-2023
In the 2022-2023 school year, Allen ISD will serve eligible students in a half-day Prekindergarten program and a full-day Prekindergarten program. There are limited seats for the full-day program.
The full-day program will consist of two full-day monolingual Prekindergarten classes and one full-day bilingual Prekindergarten class. All three full-day classes will be located at Rountree Elementary. A Prekindergarten lottery process will be held for the full-day available class seats. In order to be considered for the Prekindergarten lottery for the 2022-2023 school year, families must complete the Prekindergarten registration process and submit all required documentation by Thursday, May 26, 2022. Families will receive email notification of selection or wait list during the week of June 20th. Families of selected students must confirm their acceptance and commitment for the 2022-2023 school year by the established deadline.

Emergency Broadband Benefit
The FCC is providing relief to help families struggling to afford internet services during COVID-19. The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband services for qualifying families and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Families can use this link to apply.
