SCHOOL GOAL: BEING ORGANISED FOR SCHOOL
WHY:
Having all your school gear ready each day - saves time during 'learning time'
Becoming a self manager
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
* The teacher does not need to remind you about what is happening over the day
* Your gear is in your room, ready for the day
* You remember your library books, homework, practices and clubs without being reminded.
* You keep your bag zipped up and the corridor around your class bags tidy.
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We will continue to keep the pool open as long as the weather stays warm. We make a call about class swimming on a 'day to day' basis, please make sure togs are still brought every day. Swimming is part of the PE and Health curriculum at Vogeltown. We are very fortunate to have a school pool, so students must bring their togs each day. Once the temperature of the pool drops, we will begin to taper off swimming for the term.
Yesterday we sent home a flyer about 'Kindo Shop' and a link on our Facebook page. A big thanks to Mrs Wolfe and Mrs Sleep (junior) for setting this up for the school. This is going to make payments for school items a lot easier for families. We envisage this 'shop' offering a lot more than what is currently offered - we are starting small.
Please see the link below for how to set this up.
Thanks to Mrs Agar and the kids who were involved in the choir for the Multi-Ethnic extravaganza last week! Awesome work team!
A big thanks to Jennie Hamilton, Garth Read and Angela Brown for the Home and School lunches today - the kids were extremely excited to get their 'bought lunch'!
A reminder that we have a Teacher Only Day this coming Friday 20th March. We organised and informed the community last year and earlier this year about these days over 2020. This is in line with the agreement the teachers and the government came to as part of their negotiations in 2019. We have aligned our days with Highlands Intermediate to hopefully make it easier for most of our families. Our staff will be doing First Aid re-validation on this day. Every teacher has to hold a First Aid certificate and this requires re-validation every 2 years. Thanks for making alternative arrangements on this day.
We have included in this newsletter some information and latest official updates about Coronavirus - please see below.

My cat Hurley went to the vet last night he had gristle in his tummy.
He was fighting when we were away. He had a bite and it got infected. He had to get an injection.
He also slept in my bed and I was up all night. Thanks Hurley!!!

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
As in last weeks newsletter, we have an update for the Coronavirus from the Ministry of Education. We take our lead from the MOE and the Ministry of Health. Here is our update for week 6:
You may have seen that the World Health Organisation has now declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic. As noted by the Minister of Health, this doesn’t change what New Zealand is doing to respond to coronavirus.
The Ministry of Health has been working through its pandemic plan since January. You will also know the Government has already implemented a range of measures to minimise the impacts to New Zealand. This includes border restrictions, a requirement to self-isolate on arrival in New Zealand from China, Iran, Italy and the Republic of Korea and immediate and detailed contact tracing of any confirmed cases. It is important to note those four countries account for more than 90% of cases globally and China and the Republic of Korea have significantly declining numbers of new cases.
We have 5 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand and it is pleasing to know they are all doing well and are at home. Their children, four students at Auckland schools, continue to be well and show no symptoms. While we expect that more cases will arise, the Ministry of Health says that with continued vigilance the chance of widespread community outbreak is expected to remain low in New Zealand. We all have a role to play in this.
For our school, our pandemic plan is also ready to be implemented if needed. In the mean time we will continue to focus on good hygiene practices. Hand washing and good cough etiquette are very important tools in preventing the spread of illness including colds, flu and COVID-19.
With that, there is a good video clip from Nanogirl that will help your children to better understand the virus - YouTube clip - Nanogirl
You may have also seen the Prime Minister sat down with Dr Michelle Dickinson (aka Nanogirl) and the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor, Juliet Gerrard, to talk about coronavirus:
One other action we can all take is to be vigilant about our own health and the health of our children. I will be encouraging the VS staff to stay away from school if they are showing signs of illness such as coughs and colds. I ask that you please do the same with your children. Colds and flus are common in schools and by staying away, seeking medical attention and practicing good hygiene, we can all keep any spread of illness to a minimum.
Thanks whanau, Mr O

SPORTS NEWS
Term 2 Sports:
Miniball (Yr 0-4) & Basketball (Yr 5-6) registrations are now open!!
You may have seen that Vogeltown School are now using a system called Kindo for purchasing all of the items you may need for school. This includes all of our sports registrations from now onwards (with the exception of Netball and Hockey). The great thing for you is that there are no more paper forms to hand in and the registration and payment process can be done in one go!! It does require you to set up an account with Kindo using your email address that is registered with the school.
You will not be able to complete the registration process for any sport without the correct amount of funds in your account. The trick is to keep your account in credit so that when things crop up, e.g. sports regos, school trips or school camp, you have funds already in credit so you’ll be good to go. You can set up an automatic payment to drip feed your Kindo account, or you can transfer lump sum payments whenever you have some spare cash. If you have other family members that wish to pay for school items just pass on the correct details and they can transfer money into your Kindo account too!!
To set up your account please use the following link which will take you to the Kindo Shop tab on our website. http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/kindo-shop/
Once your account is set up you will need to add Miniball or Basketball to your cart, fill out the questions and top up your account. You will then be able to 'place your order’ and the job is done!! If you have multiple children in your account please make sure you add the correct child for the correct sport!!
If you have any questions about navigating this system you can call Kindo on their freephone line 0508 454 636.
Hockey - Year 0-6
Registrations for winter Hockey are now available. Please click here to register your child. All Ministicks and Kiwisticks games are played on a Saturday morning at the Hobson Street turf. Funsticks is run at NPGHS. Registrations close on Monday 16 March.

We are still needing a few more players to top up both our Yr3/4 and Yr5/6 Netball teams. Please click here to register your child. Year 3 & 4 play on a Thursday afternoon. Year 5 & 6 play on a Tuesday afternoon.
If you wish to sign up for winter Soccer or Rugby you will need to register with a club. Keep an eye on the newsletter for information on signing up or contact your club now for information.
