'Tiger T.A.L.K' - Topics of Academics & Learning at KLZ'
Let's Get Ready to ROOOAARRR!
As we have worked diligently & collaboratively with our students throughout the year, it is time for our students to apply their learning & knowledge on our state assessment - S.T.A.A.R.
This week, our 5th graders will be taking the STAAR ASSESSMENT for SCIENCE.
As we will have one grade level assessing, please be reminded of the expectations shared during our campus wide STAAR Trainings for all staff.
NOTE: STAAR REFRESESHER SESSIONS will be held during PLANNING on THURSDAY, APRIL 27th.
Remember, the reminders to consider to ensure that we have campus wide success.
- Early Arrival - Please be sure to leave home early and arrange your morning for early & prompt arrival for material check out. The KLZ STAAR Check Out doors will open at 7:15 a.m. for your convenience. You are late after 8:15 a.m. for STAAR Day. Due to our campus need for STAAR as was shared during your trainings, we need all staff to pick up materials between 7:15 a.m. - 8:15 a.m.
- Wall Coverage - Be sure that walls are covered and that there is not any educational material posted that could assist students with the STAAR Assessment. NOTE: This does not mean that school is over and that all wall decor is removed until the end of the year. We will return to regular school mode after testing. IF you have a question regarding coverage for walls, please see your Content Specialist, as well.
- No Cell Phone Devices during testing. - Take this time to share with your families the school number in the event that there is an emergency.
- KLZ is a CLOSED CAMPUS - All staff will need to bring a lunch or place an order with KLZ Tiger Cafe via Ms. Niemann. Lunch Deliveries and/or Leaving Campus to pick up Lunches will not be allowed. Please prepare ahead of time as shared in our trainings.
- TV CHECK - Last week & during Monday. April 17th, we will do another TV Check. As STAAR Directions are read on announcements for all classes, you will need to ensure that you have a functioning TV. Remember, a CLEAR TOUCH CANNOT BE USED DURING STAAR. If your television is not working properly, we have asked that you submit a work order A.S.A.P. to Ms. Urbina & 'cc'- Ms. Winston.
- Testing Devices - As we are in 'test mode' & you discover that you need a testing a device, please send Ms. Winston an email and/or let her know A.S.A.P. Please verify in advance, so that we are prepared.
- Accommodations/Modifications - Small Group Testers will review their lists, as well as all staff should review their list for proper implementation and adherence. The Counseling Team, SPED Dept. and ESL Dept. have worked very hard to ensure that lists are prepared and ready to go.
- Active Monitoring is KEY! - Be sure to wear those comfortable shoes and be ready to actively monitor your classroom and testing environment. We must show 'with-it-ness' to ensure students are giving and doing their BEST! Students do better when they know and feel the presence of an adult.
- NO BACKPACKS - There will be no backpacks allowed on STAAR ASSESSMENT days for the ENTIRE CAMPUS for BOTH GRADE LEVELS.
As we continue to implement best practices & instructional strategies, we will continue to see the impact of our efforts within our student academic progress & overall campus success.
