Language Arts/Social Studies Block 1 & 2: This week we are finishing the study of American Revolution through the Social Studies Weekly. We will also be beginning an informational writing unit and students will choose a topic to research and complete a written report about.

Science: Reviewing single and multi-celled organisms, traits, and ecosystems.
Ms. Price
Block 1 and 2 Math: We are beginning Unit 6. The focus will be converting among customary or metric units of length, capacity, and weight. We will also be choosing the appropriate unit of measure and tool, as well as relating length, area, and volume.
Science: Gravity is our focus this week. We will explore how things on or near Earth are all pulled toward Earth by gravity. We will demonstrate that Earth's gravity pulls objects toward it without touching it.
Science Vocabulary: attract, gravity, mass, matter, surface, weight
Mr. Ross
Language Arts/Social Studies: In reading, we will be finishing our leveled readers and taking a test on them early next week. In social studies, we are learning about the weakness of the Articles of Confederation before we move into our unit on the Constitution.
Science: We are finishing our unit on genetics by reading the book "What Makes You, You?" There will not be a unit test for genetics, but tehre will be a test on the book.

Math: We have finished Unit 4 and will be taking a quiz on Tuesday. We will begin Unit 6: Volume, Capacity, and Weight on Wednesday. Our skills focus will be: Using a formula to calculate the volume of a rectangular prism, calculating the length of a missing edge of a figure given the volume and other dimensions, and comparing volume and capacity.
Science: We are currently working on Forces and Motion. Our skills focus will be: calculating the speed of an object, summarizing how speed, acceleration, and velocity are connected, and how the mass of an object affects the speed of an object.

*Planners need to be filled out and signed daily.
Reminders to Parents
*Please sign planner nightly. Please sign your full name (no initials) and use a pen.
*Be sure to check your childs planner today and every Friday for a conduct grade for the week. Please sign and address any concerns with your child. Teachers will be checking for a parent signature on Monday.
*Tardies and Early Dismissals can affect Success Celebrations* Success Celebration Criteria: -Students cannot have an N or U in conduct in any class. -Students cannot have any office or bus referrals. -Students cannot have any unexcused absences. -Students cannot have more than 3 tardies to school. -Students cannot have more than 3 early dismissals from school.
*No School: Monday, January 20th, Thursday, January 23rd, or Friday, January 24th.

Corporate Chick-fil-A has changed their Spirit Night procedures. The good news is Blackburn will now be getting 20%!!To get the 20% Blackburn guests must do one of the following: *Show their spirit night sticker to the employee at the time of sale. *Tell the Chick-fil-A employee at time of sale that they are supporting Blackburn. (Blackburn representatives will not be able to remind guest on the premises of Chick-fil-A)
