EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of February 28, 2021
OUR CURRENT REALITY
Dear EHT School Community,
The EHT Road Forward Plan has been shared with the school community where more in-person learning opportunities will be provided for students beginning the week of March 22, 2021. This plan includes a change to our current hybrid model. We will combine Groups A and B so that students can attend school 4 days per week; Tuesday through Friday. Mondays will remain a virtual day for all students/teaching and PD day for staff at this juncture. Students will follow their same abbreviated schedule. Our PK and MD programs will continue attending school 5 days per week.
The contributing factors in making a change to more in-person learning involve:
CDC Operational Strategy for K-12 Schools through Phased Mitigation
Orange to Yellow/Moderate Risk
COVID-19 positive cases in our District
ABSENCE of high/moderate levels of linked transmission occurring in our schools.
Governor changes on capacity allowance
Absence of rapidly accelerating community transmission
Social Emotional Impact on Students
Student Performance Data
**The plan can and will be impacted if these factors change.
A survey was sent to parents through our Infinite Campus Parent Portal and closed on February 28th. The survey asked parents to commit each one of their children to attend school in-person or through virtual learning. Parents/guardians were provided with a link to assist with understanding the Road Forward Plan (Road Forward Presentation (linked-public version). If you as a parent, have not filled out the survey for their student(s), please contact the student’s principal where you will be assisted with completing the survey. Our plan moving forward consists of spending the next few days analyzing the survey data and reaching out to anyone who has not provided us with a choice for in-person learning or virtual learning. From there we will be creating in-person class roster and new transportation rosters for bus passes. I ask that you are patient with this process for it takes time to reorganize over 7200 students. Sometime during the week of March 15th students will receive their bus passes. All school start and end time for an abbreviated day will not change at this time. Our next steps to the Road Forward include exploring expanding the abbreviated days to full days, researching our food service operations, and moving from 4 days to 5 days. We would like to observe and monitor how the first steps of the plan work before we add anything more at this time.
The health, safety, and welfare of our staff and students is of the utmost importance to me. My staff and I will be sure to keep abreast of the guidance from the CDC, NJDOE, NJDOH, and ACDPH. This includes monitoring the status of COVID-19 in our district and county as changes in case data and the contributing factors listed above could have an impact on the EHT Road Forward Plan. We will continue to stress the wearing of masks and the importance of 6 feet of social distancing to the greatest extent practicable. When 6 feet of social distancing cannot occur, we will provide the needed PPE. Our buildings and buses will continue to be cleaned and sanitized on a daily basis.
All of us in the Egg Harbor Township School Community are working hard to Move Forward and provide increased in-person learning opportunities for students, in a safe environment meeting the standards of the Road Back Plan, Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 175 and New Jersey Department of Health Guidance. We have been engaged in this process since August of 2020 by continuously staying abreast of the guidance that governs New Jersey public schools, following the data, and making decisions that are best for Egg Harbor Township. While we are moving forward it is important to remind everyone of the importance of teamwork in our school community Teamwork is defined as: Cooperation between those who are working on a task; the willingness of a group of people to work together to achieve a common aim. I remind everyone that teamwork does not include disrespect, defiance, undermining, or being unkind. I am confident that with respect, understanding, and teamwork our school community will come together to provide the best educational experiences for our students.
I look forward to working together!

CLIMATE & CULTURE
The culture of our schools includes our school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Where with Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Through professional development opportunities we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We have a district -wide initiative that includes individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. Together, we can achieve more!
