BULLDOG BULLETIN

New Britton Elementary

February 4, 2022

I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE. BULLDOGS!

News from Mrs. Mankin

Dear Bulldog Families,

I hope that you have been safe and warm during the past few days of inclement weather! Snow brings joy to our children, but we recognize that it may cause some stress for the adults. Our goal is that the use of Canvas will help our students actively engage in learning while at home. Please note that our next, prescheduled eLearning Day is Friday, February 18. Students will have an eLearning day off-campus and teachers will engage in professional learning. Also, be sure to mark your calendars that there is no school on Monday, February 21 in observance of President's Day.

February has brought snow, eLearning, the Winter Olympics, Black History Month, continued learning for our Bulldogs, and a host of other celebrations and activities for our learning community. We will kick off our return to in-person learning on Monday, February 7 with a FISHY FUN spirit week to recognize the Winter Olympics. Please see the specific schedule a little later in the newsletter.

The Hamilton Southeastern Education Foundation supports students and families in many ways. Please access their website to learn more specifics. New Britton has benefitted from both student and teacher-created grants in the past, and we are so appreciative of the foundation's support. Please consider attending Game Day on February 18th at 6:30 at Conner Prairie (more details are below). We would like to thank the New Britton PTO for sponsoring a table at this event.

Whether enjoying some fun in the snow or staying warm inside, we hope you and your family enjoy the weekend! As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.

Sincerely,

Lori Mankin

Winter Weather Is Here!

Winter Weather Guidelines

It is always beneficial for students to get fresh air and exercise during recess, however, during the winter months we may have days when the temperature/wind chill falls below 15 degrees Fahrenheit that require students to stay inside. In these cases, teachers provide and supervise indoor recess activities as an alternative. To best prepare children for outdoor recess days, always send them to school with the appropriate outdoor winter clothing.

Library News

Volunteers Needed!

As we are beginning our 2nd semester of the school year, we could use some help in the library. If you are interested in volunteering in the library, please sign up using the link below.

If it will be your first time, please let Mrs. Williams (kwilliams@hse.k12.in.us) know what day and time you will be coming so she can be sure to be in the library to give directions.

Feel free to grab a friend and come shelve some books! It normally takes an hour or so to put the books away. Volunteers are free to come at a time that is convenient for them anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. You must have a current SafeVisitor background check on file. If you have any questions, please ask!

Support our Library

Are you looking for a way to support the NBE library? If so, we have a program called Support our Library! Using the link below, you can choose a book to donate to our library. You have the option to donate the book in honor of a teacher, a student for his/her birthday, or just for the fun of reading! These books are library bound books and come processed...which means they are ready for the shelf and checkout to students as soon are they arrive at NBE. If you choose to donate a book to our library, Mrs. Williams will share the book first with your child's class. Thanks for being willing to Support our Library!!

Good Samaritan Network (GSN) is a collaborative/network of nonprofits in Hamilton County. FYAP Snack Attack Program

NBE is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.

Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.

There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Sherri Leiner, NBE School Counselor at sleiner@hse.k12.in.us
