Message from Dr. Epperson

That's a wrap on the 2021-2022 school year! Thanks for sending us such awesome kids to be with each day. We wish our 8th graders the very best in high school!


I want to send a huge thank you to our PTO and community partners who supported our students and staff all year. You were there for us at every turn and made our year wonderful. Thank you!!


Grades will be posted in HAC on May 27th.


Laptops: Remember that students are responsible for taking care of laptops over the summer. Parents may want to take charge of them over the summer. Keep them charged and in a safe place. If you travel with them, remember to bring them home.

STAAR Score Reporting

We anticipate receiving scores from the recent STAAR administration early next week. Any student who does not meet the passing standard on any exam will be asked to attend a virtual summer intervention program beginning June 1st. This will require a very fast turnaround of information to you as the parent. Summer intervention teachers would like to start reaching out with details by mid-week, so our initial communication needs to happen quickly. When we receive scores, we will send an initial email to any parent who needs the summer intervention information. We are happy to visit by phone about the results, but it may not be possible to conduct all phone calls in such a short time frame. All scores will be viewable for parents later in June. More information will be sent to help you access score reports at a later date. This is our first year with this testing and score reporting platform, so we appreciate your patience as we navigate new processes. Our timeline is dependent on the state of Texas timeline for reporting scores.

Summer Reading Program

Join us for a summer full of "Sweet Reads" with our digital library, Sora.

Each week, the CMS Learning Commons/Library will feature great books you can access and read through Sora on our Instagram and Twitter (@cowboylibrary).

Be sure to nominate your favorite reads for the "Sweetest Read of Summer." Students who nominate at least one book will have the opportunity to participate in an end of summer "Party on the Patio" when school resumes in

August and will be entered into a drawing for some amazing prizes! Students are not required to read through Sora; it’s just a wonderful resource for summer reading. Students may nominate any book they read between May 21st and August 9th.

Summer Meal Program

McKinney ISD WILL SERVE UP GOOD NUTRITION FOR LOCAL CHILDREN THIS SUMMER.

Bringing healthy summer meals to McKinney children ensures kids have a healthy vacation and return to school ready to learn.


McKinney, TX – This summer, McKinney ISD will connect children 18 and younger and enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years old with healthy, no cost summer meals. The Seamless Summer Option (SSO) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered in the Lone Star State by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). For the children who rely on school meals during the academic year, these meals offer a source of good nutrition when school is out for the long summer vacation.


School Locations open Monday - Friday:


Slaughter Elementary School (May 24th – August 5th)

· Breakfast: 7:30 am – 8:30 am

· Lunch: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Faubion Middle School (May 31st – June 24th)

· Breakfast: 7:30 am – 8:00 am

· Lunch: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Lawson Early Childhood (May 31st – June 23th)

· Breakfast: 7:30 am – 8:00 am

· Lunch: 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Caldwell Elementary School (June 6th – June 24th)

McKinney ISD is one of the nonprofit organizations partnering with TDA to serve meals across Texas. Families are encouraged to use these three tools to find a meal site anywhere in the state:


· Call 2-1-1 to speak to a live operator

· Visit www.SummerFood.org for an interactive site locator map

· Text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304


Organizations partner with TDA to serve meals in areas where more than 50 percent of children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. Eligible sponsoring organizations include schools, faith-based groups, nonprofit summer camps, government agencies and other tax-exempt organizations. All meal sites must be sponsored by an organization that has a contract with TDA.


Summer meal sites help children succeed by providing the nourishment they need to return to school in the fall ready to thrive.

MISD Technology News

McKinney ISD Parents and Students,

Google has implemented new policies outlining storage limitations for schools. On July 11, 2022, all student MISD Google Drive accounts (including Gmail) will be cleared. Students are strongly encouraged to download files from these accounts prior to July 11 if there is anything that needs to be saved.

Options for downloading/transferring files:

1. Google Takeout - Use this tool to transfer files from MISD Google account to a personal account.

2. Google Transfer - another option that will transfer only Google Drive files and Gmail to a personal Gmail account. View video tutorial.

3. Download important files onto an external hard drive

Tips and Tricks for a Successful Transfer:

1. Clean up your Google Drive and Inbox: take some time to delete old files and emails. Empty your trash. Do all of this BEFORE you transfer anything. It will make the transfer go faster and save space in your personal Google Drive or hard drive.

2. Read Google Takeout and Transfer Instructions prior to starting. Make sure you understand the difference between Google Takeout and Transfer.

3. You probably do NOT want to take out/transfer everything. Only check the boxes of things you do want to transfer - such as Drive and Gmail.

4. Be prepared for the transfer to take a while. The Google Help page says it could take up to a week.

5. Keep in mind that you will only be allowed to transfer documents that you own. Therefore, your teacher’s Google Slides presentation from Biology will not transfer if you were not the owner of that document.

**ATTENTION 6th Grade Parents**

Your child might need updated immunizations for their upcoming 7th grade year.


**All 7th grade students need a Tdap and Meningococcal Vaccine in addition to all immunizations required through elementary school up to 6th grade.**


**If you have already sent these updates to Nurse Jessica, please disregard this message**


If you have not turned in updated immunizations to Nurse Jessica, please do so ASAP. If you are planning to get these done over the summer, they MUST be turned in BEFORE school starts on August 10, 2022. Your student will not be able to begin 7th grade classes without these updates per MISD and state requirements. Please see below for more specific information.

6th Grade to 7th Grade Immunizations Transition-Letter to Parent


Your student will need proof of the following new immunizations to pick up a grade schedule for the 2022-2023 school year.


We're informing you well in advance to help you avoid possible vaccine shortages and long lines at immunization clinics in August. Your child's classroom assignment and/or schedule will be withheld next fall until his/her school immunization records are up-to-date.

**Please bring your child's complete immunization records and this letter with you to the doctor's office or immunization clinic and return the record to your campus nurse prior to August 10, 2022.


Please note: In the past, these immunization clinics would not turn anyone away, even if they had private insurance. Due to recent changes at the state level, these clinics can no longer provide immunizations to those with private insurance. If you have private insurance, it's important that you make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible to get your child's immunizations updated.

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/pertussis-containing vaccine (unless a booster dose received within the past five years for 7th grade, last 10 years for 8th )

  • Meningococcal vaccine (one dose after age 11 and every 5 years after last dose)

  • Varicella vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)

  • MMR vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)

  • Hepatitis A vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)


The vaccines listed above are required in addition to those required by earlier laws. A signed statement of varicella disease will count towards the varicella requirement.

It is necessary for your child to be in compliance before the start of school 2022-2023.

Collin County Health Care Clinic offers low-cost or free immunizations for Medicaid, CHIPs, American Indian or Alaskan native, uninsured or underinsured (no vaccine, capped coverage or select vaccine insurance coverage).
