Rocket Reader - Winter Edition
Baldwin Elementary School - February 10th, 2023
A Message from Baldwin Elementary Administration
Mr. Rupert, Principal
Ms. Boligitz, Assistant Prinicpal
The Rocket, getting ready for Spring!
Hello there Baldwin Rockets!
Happy February! It looks like this Winter Edition is a bit warmer than years past! Please remember if we have any 2 hour delays, that busses and drop off are exactly 2 hours later than the regular two-hour delay.
We held parent-teacher conferences this week on the afternoons of Thursday and Friday. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you want a conference, as we are always open to accommodate! We are a team!
We are excited to share a new feature on our website with a learning objectives link shared per week. You can access this by clicking on the link in the "What are we Learning?" section of this Newsletter below. Be sure to ask your child what they are learning and why it is important. We will be working to share academic vocabulary with these links as well so you can actively play a part in the words they are learning and applying each day!
Just FYI for planning purposes:
President’s Day on Monday, February 20th, has no school for students, and the division has a PD day on March 17th for teachers with no school for students. There will be a PTO meeting on February 22nd at 7:00 for all, but we will be recognizing 1st and 2nd grade in particular.
Lastly, please join us for our first Donuts and Discussion with the Principal and Family Liaison on March 2nd at 9 AM. Please sign in at our front office after arrival at 8:45 Am. The RSVP and topic list is available through the following Googleform HERE. Please call our Family Liaison, Kaylin Newman, at 571-377-6122 if you are unable to access the link, and we will get you all set. It is important for you to have a voice and to share ideas/feedback with us to grow together! We will be sending out a Spring Rocket Reader update with end-of-year updates around Spring Break, April 3-10, for students. If you would like to touch base beforehand, my email is drupert@mcpsva.org, and my door is always open for our partnership with your child. Please respond to this correspondence with any other info you may want us to update you with. Thank you!
In your service,

Please welcome Ms. Cindy Kline to the counseling team. Ms. Kline will be supporting the counseling team until the Spring when Mrs. Hartman comes back.
For the month of January, all students will receive counseling lessons learning about conflict resolution to solve conflicts with their peers. They will learn about the sizes of their problems and the importance of when big problems happen they need a grown-up’s attention right away.
In December, students learned about the growth mindset and the power of yet. They’ve learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and what’s important is that they don’t give up to reach their goals.
In the month of February, we have National School Counseling Week (February 6 - 10) and Kindness Week (February 13 - 17). During Kindness Week, students will have a checklist of kind actions they can complete.
Please visit the “Counseling” page on the Baldwin website for more information about resources and counseling services (Counseling / Resources for Families).

Clinic Updates
Please bring a water bottle to school each day and drink and refill it at least once. Most stomachaches and headaches are due to dehydration.
Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to stop germs from spreading. Remember to wash before and after eating and after using the bathroom.
Remind your child not to share combs, brushes, hats or anything that has been near another student’s head.
