High School Counseling
As you may know, high school counseling is in various ways similar to elementary and middle school counseling. There is also a distinction between school counseling and college counseling. As a high school counselor, my certification has trained me to be an expert in 3 areas: academic preparedness, college & career readiness, and social-emotional development. These areas in the context of adolescence create a niche that requires flexibility, firmness, compassion and patience.
The week of February 6th - 10th is a national event for all school counselors to celebrate the fantastic ways in which we contribute to education. I am most appreciative of all the families who help collaborate to make the 4 years of high school a supportive and nurturing experience for Emerson students. Without you, none of this would be possible. Cheers!!

Progress Reports
Progress Reports are being completed by teachers throughout this week. A notice will be sent home for families to review these reports with students. As we look to increase student achievement, families will be increasingly communicated with as additional supports for student attendance and work completion.

All School Valentines Day Bake-Off!!
Our annual bake-off will be hosted on Tuesday, February 14th. Students are to bake (without much help from families) a special treat, write the ingredients on a card, and bring the treat in for a baking competition, Emerson version of Cupcake Wars!
May the odds be ever in your 'flavor'.

11th Grade Family Night- Colleges and Universities Information Session
Please join us as we discuss the college application process (not in it's entirety because that would take multiple weeks) and what families need to do in order to appropriately support students through graduation (yes, college application season is not over until graduation).
We are in for a long haul but with your patience and input, we can make this a smooth experience.
Bring your questions. Light refreshments will be provided.

OverGrad.com for 11th Grade Students
All 11th graders should sign up for overgrad.com as I will communicate through this website. Families can also work with their student to make sure deadlines are met. The work belongs to the student. As responsibilities and accountability increases, I want to see students being autonomous throughout this process (as much as appropriate).
