High School Math

In each lesson, students work collaboratively in study teams on challenging problems. The teacher is continuously providing structure and direction to teams by asking questions and giving clarifying instructions. The teacher gives targeted lectures or holds whole-class discussions when appropriate. The teacher has the freedom to decide the level of structure or open-endedness of each lesson. While students are in teams, the teacher checks for understanding by questioning students’ thinking and asking students to justify their solutions. Questioning is informative to both the teacher and the student as it guides the students to the learning target. At the close of each lesson, the teacher ensures that the students understand the big mathematical ideas of the lesson.

The homework in the “Review & Preview” section of each lesson includes mixed, spaced practice, and prepares students for new topics. The homework problems give students the opportunity to apply previously-learned concepts to new contexts. By solving the same types of problems in different ways, students deepen their understanding. CPM offers open access homework support at homework.cpm.org. Occasionally the teacher will give a worksheet to hone in on a skill that needs to be achieved based on standards.

Big picture

K-2nd grade parents

K-2nd grade parents, we need your help teaching sight words (high frequency and irregular words). All K-2nd grade students need to be practicing their sight words at home. Stellar has established lists for the sight words (high frequency and irregular words) for each grade in the Parent Drive. Or if you would like a printed list, please email Mrs. Cable at ccable@rsdnmp.org with your child's name and grade. Children need to memorize these sight words. You may want to create flashcards on index cards and begin working on 5 cards at a time. Have your child review the flashcards at the beginning of the school day or while driving to school. The goal is automaticity. Thank you for partnering with us to create lifelong readers!

Parking and Drop off Procedures

The bottom gate is open for car drop offs only. The upper gate is to be used for all foot traffic. If you park in the lower parking lot, please safely cross the road using the crosswalk and walk up the sidewalk to the upper gate.

Please do not slow down in the upper parking lot and let your child jump in the car. The car drop off and pick up lane is the Stellar Loop at the bottom of the campus.

Thank you so much for helping to keep our kids safe!!!

High School Leadership

Leadership meetings will be held in Room 2 on Fridays at Noon. Come help plan events, share your voice, and spend time with other high school students!
