City High Update
The School That Leads
January 8, 2019
Dear Little Hawks,
Greetings from The School That Leads! Happy New Year. With a supportive community, a dedicated staff, a beautiful facility, and the best students in the world, 2019 is sure to be... The Year of the Little Hawk!
Second Trimester Parent Teacher Conferences January 16
Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, January 16, from 4:30-7:30 on a drop-in basis in classrooms. At 5:30, our guidance counselors will host grade level meetings to talk about course offerings/recommendations for students. We hope to see you there!
City High Celebrates MLK Day!
There is no school for students on Monday, January 21 in honor of MLK Day. On Friday, January 18, City High students will engage in a day of learning and service to honor Dr. King's legacy. Students will be signing up for sessions to participate in throughout the day. We have many wonderful opportunities planned for the students. Students will not attend their regular classes on this day. Rather, they will sign up for a day's worth of the special sessions.
Winter Show was a Hit!
Congratulations to our show choir and jazz band programs. Mr. Hagy, Dr. Grove, and Mr. Ottmar and their student musicians performed brilliantly. It was a treat for all. Thank you!
Speech Students Perform, Come Join the Fun!
See the poster below and consider attending the fun, entertaining event. Proceeds go to a great cause.
ELL Students Visit the Fire Station
These awesome Little Hawks learned so much about our community, firefighter/EMT profession, and language acquisition skills from a special field trip to the IC Fire Department. Good stuff!
Meet the Debate Team
Coach Vince Woolums and his Little Hawk Debaters are in full swing competing across the Midwest. They are talented and driven. Tough to argue about that.
Robotics Competes
City High FTC Robotics is in the heart of their season. Students learn technology skills, teamwork, leadership, marketing, and more. Proud of these students and their coaches, Mrs. Mons and Mr. Crawford.
Sophomores Attend Career Caravan
Our entire 10th grade class visited the Kirkwood Regional Center to attend the annual Career Caravan event. Students had the chance to learn about many different career fields, and also tour the Regional Center. The Regional Center offers tremendous course options for high school juniors and seniors. Interested students are strongly encouraged to talk with counselors about offerings during the upcoming registration process.
Best Buddies
Our National Chapter of the Year Best Buddies group celebrated with a special holiday party. So special and important. If you ever want to simply feel a little better, I encourage you to visit a Best Buddies event. The best!
World Language Field Trip
City High world language students went on a special field trip to the Figge Museum of Art in the Quad Cities. They enjoyed learning from an exhibit that tied in nicely to their curriculum. Excellent opportunity.
It's great to be a City High Little Hawk!
Thank you for your strong support of City High School!
