September's Character Trait - Respect
SR: Kwan Washington
According to Kwan’s nominating teacher, “I had Kwan in my algebra 2 class last year. He always showed great respect for me as his teacher. Even when he struggled academically, he respectfully strove to get help. I just witnessed Kwan addressing one of his new teachers in the hallway a few hours ago, and I could tell his polite level of respect still remains one of his strengths. In addition, he asked great questions and thus was a strong leader in class.”
Overall: Michaela Reed
According to Michaela’s nominating teacher, “Michaela is always one of the first students to arrive in the morning and she is always very positive. Every morning she asks me how my morning has been. She just seems to really care about others.”
Congratulations to all students who received awards!

Dual Credit Courses
The purpose of Dual Credit courses is to provide a mechanism to allow high school juniors and seniors enrolled at Waynesville High School to enroll in college courses offered at Drury University, thereby earning both high school and college credit at the same time. Students who elect to earn college credit must complete an enrollment form and pay the required fee to Drury University. The form and fee for 1st-semester classes (College Algebra, Advanced Composition, and British Literature) are due September 27.
If you have any questions, please contact Kayla Maassen at 573-842-2445.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Students who are currently enrolled in AP courses and take the AP exam (fee paid by the district) at the end of the year can potentially earn college credit and additional incentives for a qualifying score on the exam. Students must return the AP Exam Intent Form to their AP teacher no later than September 28, 2018: Parent signature required.
In the 2018-19 school year, our school has been selected to be one of 800 around the world to use new classroom resources and exam registration and ordering processes that are coming to the Advanced Placement Program. According to College Board, when students make exam-taking decisions at the beginning of the school year, they’re more invested in the course, put in more effort, and perform better on the exam.
New Resources
- AP question bank: Your teacher can use this library of real AP Exam questions to give you additional opportunities to practice throughout the year.
- Performance results: You’ll be able to track your progress and make sure that you’re understanding course content and building the skills that will be assessed on the AP Exam. Use your results to focus your practice plan.
Process Changes
- Student and teacher will sign in to myap.collegeboard.org and complete a simple digital activation process that will give access to the new resources.
- An important change this year is that you’ll need to decide in the Fall whether you’re taking AP Exams in the spring.
- Student fee for late cancellation is $40.
If you have any questions, please contact Theresa McNutt, AP Coordinator at 573-842-2400.
