Thunderbird Updates 23-24

Last Thursday was a special day in our building. Thank you to all of our guest Veterans that visited Zia so we could show our thanks for your service. Thanks to the generosity of our Zia community, we were able to donate a check for $575 to Four Paws and a Wake Up, a local non-profit organization that trains service dogs for Veterans. We all enjoyed the demonstration that CB gave us at the assembly! Our top 3 Pennies for Paws classes were Ms. Suggs, Ms. Avelar, and Ms. Gurnea's classes! We are also grateful for the families that were able to stop by for Turkey Day lunch! In total, 130 families visited our building. It was an amazing day!

• Thursday, 11/16 Spanish Spelling Bee (Zia library)
• Thursday, 11/16 PFO sponsored Pie Day!!!
• Friday, 11/17 will be a reward assembly day for our kiddos with no "D" or "F" interims on the 2nd 9-weeks interim report card. The Zia staff will take on our amazing 8th grade volleyball teams in an epic battle for bragging rights! Students may purchase a chance to pie a principal or teacher in the face as part of our half time show! Students who make poor behavior this week will not be eligible to attend.
• Friday, 11/17 LCHS Dawgs v. La Cueva (State football semi-final) @ 7pm in Albuquerque. Go DAWGS!
• No School 11/20-11/24

A portion of University to be closed, families asked to find alternate routes and plan ahead

A portion of University Avenue is expected to be closed to traffic beginning Monday, Nov. 6 while construction crews with JGF Built complete some underground utility work. The closure is expected to last until Friday, Nov. 10, and will impact bus routes and parents transporting students to Zia Middle School.

The closure will be along University Avenue between Old Farm Road and McDowell. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and seek alternate routes, such as Bowman to Conway, and Conway to McDowell, or Bowman to Capri Road and Capri Road to McDowell.
