Viper Voice Newsletter
March 2023
Message from the desk of Elizabeth Ihle
Dear VCMS Families,
What a busy month March has been for us here at Vickery! We have loved seeing and meeting so many future Vipers as fifth graders have had an opportunity to visit their soon-to-be school. Our track and golf teams have had strong starts and continue to impress! Be sure to check the calendar for upcoming events. Our first ever West Fest also occurred this month with a huge turnout. Thanks for coming out and supporting our students and school community.
For rising 6th and 7th grade students, we would love for your child to take a leadership role in the Clubhouse. The Clubhouse is a student-led club that plans the International Food Fest, and the Children’s Healthcare Awareness Festival. Next year, we are offering a Power Time class to those students interested to continue to promote and build a school culture founded on awareness and appreciation of our similarities and differences. Please see information in this newsletter to sign up students for this class.
We are excited for our 8th grade students as they are finishing up their time as Vipers. Once we return from Spring Break we will have the 8th grade fieldtrip on April 14th, the 8th grade dance on April 21st and the 8th grade picnic on May 19th. Specific communication will begin after the break.
As a reminder, the Milestone Test dates are April 24 - May 12. The 6th grade tests for three mornings. The 7th grade tests for three mornings. The 8th grade tests for five to six mornings. See more specific information in this newsletter.
If you are a HOA board member (or know one) and would like to have Principal Scott Feldkamp attend one of your monthly, semi-annual, or annual HOA meetings, please click on the link below.

VCMS Media Center
Thank you, thank you to our generous Viper Community for another successful (and fun) book fair! Our students enjoyed a week of books, games, trivia, and prizes.
I’d like to take a moment to thank the parents who so generously donated prizes for our Blow Pop fundraiser, from gift cards to snack sized chips, full sized candy to toy prizes, not to mention the Blow Pops themselves! With your donations we were able to have hundreds of students walk away with a prize.
Additionally, thank you to all the parents and grandparents who graciously volunteered their time to help run the book fair. I could not do it without the help and support of our PTO, parents and caregivers. You are the BEST!
A special thank you to Dolores Mahn and Kate Wormsley for giving so much of their time to help make everything run smoothly. I am so lucky to have you both.
All profits from the book fair will go right back into our media program.
Enjoy a restorative spring break! Summer will be here before we know it.

Read by Mr. Cheek Author: Mark Nepo The book gives a daily message and responses to reflect upon. I love hearing from different voices and learning from different perspectives. | Read by Ms. Wilkinson Author: Stephen King It isn't one of King's normal horror novels, but it offers a look into a parallel world and offers fantasy for the reader that comes from an author with no limits to his imagination. | Read by Ms. Tafuto Author: Susan Cain After reading Susan Cain's Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking, I connected wholeheartedly with the mirror her book provided; a book that celebrates the importance of the Introvert in the face of the Extrovert Ideal . Seeking more, I went on to read Bittersweet, a book about the melancholic direction. Again, I found comfort in the reflection of my own experiences. From the author: "Bittersweetness is not, as we tend to think, just a momentary feeling or event. It's also a quiet force, a way of being... an authentic and elevating response to the problem of being alive in a deeply flawed yet stubbornly beautiful world." "The very highest states - of awe and joy, wonder and love, meaning and creativity - emerge from this bittersweet nature of reality. We experience them not because life is perfect - but because it's not." |
