Words of Inspiration

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled."

-Plutarch

A Special Applause to...

I want to give a special shout out to Miss Georgia in the cafe! Once again she has been awarded the Hamilton County Public Health Clean Kitchen Award. While this award recognizes the cleanliness of the Greene School kitchen, I know that the level of care for our students is what sets our cafe far above the rest. Thank you Miss Georgia and all of the kitchen staff!

If that isn't enough, the level of engagement from the cafe to the classroom is amazing! Thank you for transforming the kitchen into Willie Q's today.

PD on the Fly...

I want to thank Stacy Liu for using this article (along with several other articles) to develop her professional growth plan. This week we take another look into our building focus this year, conferencing with students to set goals. While this is a time consuming strategy that requires an intentional approach to classroom management and data collection, research indicates it is one of the most powerful strategies we can use to help students grow.

In this article, the author, Matt Christenson, describes how he uses conferences to formatively assess students. Christenson states, "Conferencing means a quick conversation to see which areas need to be readdressed to ensure everyone’s success." I hope this helps build your toolbox as you develop or refine the process of conferencing with students this year. Enjoy!

Information for the Staff

Picking up Students from Lunch

I want to send a quick reminder that teachers need to pick students up from lunch/recess at the scheduled times. The special area teachers cannot stay with students beyond those times. It becomes a potential safety issue for students when they are lined up waiting to go back to class without the proper supervision.
