GeekWire Mudders Team

Sept. 29th-30th, 2012 @ 1:20 PM

Are you up for a challenge?

The Tough Mudder ( is an incredibly challenging and fun team event and it's coming to Seattle this September.

We're putting together the GeekWire Mudders team to bring together members of the Seattle tech community to participate in this unique event.

Interesting in joining?

Sorry! We're all full up on members this time. Maybe next year?

Q: What's Tough Mudder?

A: Tough Mudder is a team-oriented obstacle course race event. They call it "Iron Man meets Burning Man" :) and describe it as "10-12 miles of hills, mud, water, ropes, walls, electric shocks, and fire."

Most of all it's a team-event that emphasizes having fun and teamwork over winning.

Our team will be about having fun and crossing the finish line together. We're not out to break any records (or to get featured in FAIL blog)

Q: What kind of shape do I need to be in?

A: At race time, you'll need to be in pretty darn good shape. See Tough Mudder's training page for specific recommendations.

The event is 6-months away though, so there's ample time to train as long as you're in decent shape to start with. Is joining our team the motivation you were looking for to get in shape?

For some insight into what the Tough Mudder *might* be like, check out Kevin Nakao's excellent write-up from the Spartan Race in June.

Q: Why a GeekWire team?

A: Hmm, a bunch of tech geeks working as a team to get through "hills, mud, water, ropes, walls, electric shocks, and fire" and then drink beer at the end?

Sounds like a typical tech startup!

We thought it would be a fun way to bring together people in the community and have a great time. We're really looking forward to that beer at the end of the course.
