Countdown to College
1) Daily Nuggets. In an effort to minimize the overwhelming process of applying to college, the school counseling department will be sharing "nuggets" of information each day via email, social media, and Canvas.
2) Drop In College Application Workshop: On October 13th (parent/teacher conference night), the school counselors will be hosting a drop in college application workshop between 1:00 and 5:00 in the school counseling office to assist students and parents with college applications.
3) Financial Aid Night. The College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) will be hosting a financial aid night for seniors and their parents on October 13th (parent/teacher conference night) at 6:00 in our media center.
4) College Application Week. During College Application Week (October 17-21), many colleges and universities across the state of North Carolina will be waiving their application fee. To qualify for the waiver, students must complete their application to the college through their CFNC account. Please see attachment below for a list of participating schools.
5) Wear Your College T-Shirt Day. To kick off College Application Week, staff and students are invited to wear a college t-shirt of their choice on Monday, October 17th.
6) Wednesday Lunch and Learn: On Wednesday, October 19th, school counselors will be in the cafeteria for the entire lunch period to assist students who have questions regarding the college application process.
7) CFNC Live Events for Students and Parents: Join CFNC for a month of live virtual events covering three important steps in the college application process--residency, FAFSA, and applications. For a calendar of events, please visit the link below:

Important College Admissions Deadlines
Governor's School
The application process for the 2023 NC Governor's School is now open!
The North Carolina Governor's School is a 4-week residential program that will run from June 18 to July 15, 2023 for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two college campuses (Meredith College in Raleigh and Winston Salem State University). The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades. To be accepted to and attend Governor's School is a high and distinct honor for students. The experiences and memories made will be remembered for and last a lifetime. Students must be in good standing with academics, behavior, and attendance to apply.

- Instrumental Music
- Dance
- Theater
- Visual Art

Students may self-nominate and/or be nominated by a South Point staff member. Please complete this form to request an application. Once the form is completed the student will be emailed the application and other related documents.
Keep in mind that students will need to write up to two essays and/or create an audition tape and request recommendations from two teachers. Applications are due electronically to Mrs. Little NO LATER THAN Thursday October 27 at 3:00 pm.
Report Cards to be Distributed on October 20th!
If your student is struggling in one or more of their classes, please email their teacher(s) to set up a conference with her/him. Our Fall Parent Conference Day will be held on Thursday, October 13 from 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Students will be dismissed early that day.
PSAT October 12th!
PSAT Student Testing Guides are available for students to pick up in the school counseling office.
