Letter from the President
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time." ~ John Lubbock
Now that spring break is behind us, we are in the homestretch before Summer welcomes us. Rather than worry about your Professional Development Plan (PDP - formerly PIP), this year I challenge you to forget about planning for next year and focus on renewing yourself. Design your personal Summer Improvement Plan (SIP).
What is an SIP, you ask? It is a time for you to reflect on what makes you happy. Just the little things that can be added to and then checked off of your summer bucket list. I use this term "bucket list" loosely. I don’t mean you have to go skydiving or eat scorpions, although both of these may be on your personal list. I am thinking more local and down to earth challenges like growing an herb garden. I personally have a brown thumb so this would truly be a challenge for me. Even trying to fit in something as simple as reading an adult book, just because you want to. Take a virtual cooking class. Try a new food you have never had before. Take a few day trips and visit New Jersey’s national parks or state parks. If you're looking for some inspiration check out these sites & blogs.
For next year, consider joining the MCSMA Executive Board! There are several officer and committee chair positions open. Positions on the board are for 2 years and we meet once every other month. You are compensated for your time and commitment with professional development hours and lasting friendships. Please take a look at the Call for Officers included in this newsletter and posted on our website www.mcsma.info.
Join us for a little fun to end your school year! On Thursday May 6, 2021 we will host our final General Meeting of the 2020-2021 year. It will take place in person and virtually via Zoom at Painting with a Twist in Montville from 4:00-5:45 pm. We will be painting and voting on our new slate of officers at that time.
If you have any programs or events you’d like to highlight please submit your photos with a short caption for publication here in our MCSMA newsletter. Submissions can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As I eagerly await new additions to our Executive Board I look forward to seeing you all and counting your votes at our next meeting on May 6, 2021.
