2 SUB GROUPS

There are 2 subgroups in the grain group. WHOLE GRAINS: Whole grains contain the entire grain kernel, the bran, germ, and endosperm. REFINED GRAINS: Refined grains have been milled, a process that removes the bran and germ.

WHAT IS AN OUNCE?

1 Large bagel is 4 ounces of grain

1 biscuit is 2 ounces

2 slices of bread is 2 ounces

HEALTH BENIFITS

Grains are important sources of many nutrients, including dietary fiber, several B vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and folate), and minerals (iron, magnesium)

FOOD LABEL

The nutrition label might say it has whole grain but check the ingredients and see if it has the proper vitamins and nutrients to be whole grain
