Athey Notes

Week 26

Welcome to Week 26

Dear Athey Community,

Hopefully we are past the snow now and with March coming in like a Lion can a calm spring be far behind? Those snow days did move our last day of the 2022-23 school year, it is now Thursday, June 15. There is one additional snow day built into the calendar in the event that there is another school closure this year. Families can always view the most up-to-date school year calendar by visiting our school website or the district website.

Congratulations to our students who participated in the Science Fair last week! A huge thank you to Ryan Jordan for coaching the students these past few months. And due to the unanticipated snow days, a special thank you to all the parents who dug into their craft supplies so students could finish posters, listened to their presentations and helped them anticipate questions from judges!

The Unified Basketball Team had their last game at Rosemont and did great! Unified Sports is an inclusive team sports model that partners people with and without disabilities together on the same team. Our goal is to have fun playing sports, create some new friendships, celebrate our similarities, and build a stronger school community. It is easy to see that the students who participated all came out as winners with stronger relationships and community. Thank you to our coaches and nurses who helped make the experience such a success! We hope to put together another team in the Spring - stay tuned!

Spring break is just a few weeks away. Just before it starts, on the evening of March 23rd and morning of the 24th, we will be holding parent teacher conferences. The link for sign ups will become available March 15th and we will send out more information as we get closer!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Joel Sebastian

Mexican Folklorico Dance Class

In collaboration with the WLWV SD Department of Teaching and Learning and the FEC, we are happy and excited to offer the Folklorico Dance Class for all students of WLWV SD who wish to take the class (however space is limited to 20 per class).

We are hoping to have students participating in these classes long term, even though there will be sessions, such as Fall, Winter, Spring. The idea is not only for the student to learn one dance but to be able to learn from the culture as well as practice some vocabulary in Spanish, and represent the WLWV SD with the "Ballet Folklórico De Colores".

These classes are going to be offered at Boeckman Creek Primary School, Stage-Commons area and will be one day a week, depending on the grade level of the students. This is not only due to the number of students already attending the classes, but because the higher grade levels will be working with a more complex set of steps and dances. While the set of students from K-6 will be practicing and making better what they know and learning new steps.

Mondays, 7-12 grades and Thursdays K-6 grades. There is a fee of $40 associated with the activity/enrichment opportunity, however scholarships are available. We strongly encourage the participation of parents for these classes as part of the costumes will have to be made for the student.

We will have a general meeting with parents the first day of each class, while their kids are in class. This meeting will be held at the FEC which is located behind Boeckman Creek Primary. Once you enroll your student your email will be included in a group list for future communication.

Here is the link for the enrollment form:

Classes will start promptly on March 6th and the last class will be on May 19th with a presentation for parents. Any questions please feel free to email: Maria Horton
