Additional Supplies Needed!

Please don't forget to purchase a bottle of hand sanitizer, a sturdy 3-ring binder or an accordian folder for your child! Thank you to those who have already sent these items with your child. We have begun to use the myHomework app and if you would still like them to use a paper planner, we now have paper planners for sale at school. They are $3.25 each. Just let your child's teacher know. The link to the myHomework app is also available below. Thank you!

A note about the ipads...

We still have a few iPads that are being held by technology for some technical glitches or for non-payment. Technology has indicated they hope to have any problems corrected as soon as possible! We are expecting a new shipment of iPads soon for those that are new to our campus and have not received one yet. I promise they're coming!

This week in Math

This coming week we will review and learn more about place value and comparing number from the billions to the thousandths place. I have assigned several assignment online for your child to complete at home. I am encouraging your children to access the "Think Through Math" resource at least twice a week.

Most students have accessed their Think Through Math Account and if you would like their username and password, ask your child. I have asked them to create a username and password note on their Evernote account. Here is a brief clip about Think Through Math...

The website for their math textbook is www.pearsonrealize.com. Their log-in is their last initial, first initial, ID number@lisd (example: va12345678@lisd). All student passwords are abcd1234.

This Week In Science

Thanks to all of the parents who attended Outdoor School! We had a blast! More importantly the students loved it and learned a lot. They are creating a bubble map for each trail on their iPADS as a way to share what their highlights were, their AHA moments and an interesting fact. Please ask them to share it with you after Wednesday.

This week we will review Lab Safety procedures, the Inquiry Process and Tools in the lab.

This Week in ELAR

Comprehension and making connections with text we read are important skills we will be focusing on all year. This week we will practice these skills through various activities and a fun informational text about space academy. For grammar, we will focus on the different types of sentences, such as declarative, exclamatory and interrogative and imperative and apply what we learn through our writing. The following academic vocabulary we will be focusing on this week are: summarize, fluency, expository, schema.

We had our first Words Their Way spelling test on Spelling City last week and I am so happy with the results! I have really enjoyed them having two weeks to spend on their word sets. This gives them time to not only learn the specific spelling pattern, but be able to put it into practice as well. We will begin our next set of words this week.

We will also have our first iStation assessment on Monday. iStation is a form of reading assessment your kiddos will be doing this year. Every month they will be assessed and the data will be used to target specific skills for your child to work on. Please be on the look out for more information regarding/describing iStation.

This Week in Social Studies

On Monday, we will finally have our Geography Test! With all the excitement of Outdoor School, we decided to postpone the test until Monday! Please make sure your kiddos study! They brought their SS Interactive Notebooks home to study the two primary maps for the test.

This week we will also be making up the Celebrate Freedom we missed last week due to Outdoor School. We will be working in the textbook for a lesson each day. Mrs. Horne will be talking with the students each day about studying the most important parts of the lesson. The students will be given notes for each lesson, rather than taking their own for this week only. This unit is so brief, we just felt this was the easiest way to stay focused and keep on schedule, as well as practice good note taking skills as we begin to dig deeper with Social Studies.
