Cluster Focus

It is exciting to start this cluster cycle on Close Reading. We are lucky that our field testing is being done in all grades, EL, and Special Ed classrooms. The data and student work that our mentors and Aimee are collecting is amazing. Cluster this week was awesome. The understanding that you all wrote down on the KWL chart was so impressive. The questions that you are wondering are going to be answered over the next weeks and months as we roll out this strategy! Exciting stuff...

Week in Review

TLT focus

This past week we finalized our field testing on close reading. Mentors planned the final lessons and got the times to implement the lessons in their classroom schedules.

This week we are meeting on Thursday so we can have almost a full week of NWEA data submitted. We are going to use the data that is submitted to look at goal setting with students. We will roll this information out to you on your next data day!

Reminder about 2 hour delays

Just a reminder that if there is a 2 hour delay on a Monday there is no late arrival. It is a normal 2 hour delay start (9:35 am). We will still plan to meet for our data meetings at 8:30 am if this happens.

If there is a 2 hour delay on your cluster morning, cluster will still plan on meeting an hour later than your normal meeting time.

IB

It is so neat to see the excitement as we are discussing what IB can bring to West Goshen. The input from all of you as we move forward is going to be so important! After talking with Dr. Woodworth and Dr. Metcalfe, they have given me the ok to join the 17 others of you in Indy for the April training. Karen has gotten us all registered so we are good to go! We will need to make hotel arrangements soon so if any of you are planning on staying with family and don't want to stay in a hotel, please let us know so we know the number of rooms to reserve!

Reminder (again) about upcoming Mondays

Coming up, there are several Mondays that we will not have school (January 18th and February 15th). The Tuesday of those weeks will be late arrival days. In order for the 5th grade team to have their specials on these Tuesdays, we will follow the Monday time schedule but Tuesday classes - just like we did when we missed a Monday in September. SUCCESS groups will be running on these days!

We will still have data meetings on these Tuesday mornings.

Testing the next several weeks/months

We have a lot of assessments happening over the next several weeks/months. The computer lab/mobile labs are going to get a workout. Thanks, in advance, for your patience and professionalism through it all! Robert and Melissa are working very hard to make all the testing run as smooth as possible.

NWEA: Remember to assign tests for your class. If you need help doing this because you have forgotten, you can ask Jenn, Holly, Melissa, or Robert. They can help you out. Or, bring your computer to the data meeting on Monday morning and we will help you.

The weeks for these are as follows:
January 11-15 - Reading Assessment
January 19-22 - Math Assessment
January 25-29 - Language Acquisition Assessment (Grades 3-5 only)

PTO Bingo Night

Get ready to have a fun night with our students and families!!!! Bingo night is always a success here at West Goshen. This year we will be hosting Bingo night on January 22nd from 6-8 pm. Hope as many of us as possible can be here!

Data Days

Data days for grade level teams are coming up! K-2 will be meeting on January 25th (3-5 grade teachers will not have morning data meeting on the 25th) and 3-5 will be meeting on February 1st (K-2 will not have morning data meeting on the 1st). We are working up an agenda for this day. Some of the things we will be doing: triangulating your data (STI/classroom formative assessments, NWEA, ISTEP, etc), making a plan based on the triangulation of data, checking how our data is moving us toward our school goal, and getting our data wall up and running.

Counselor's Corner

West Goshen received $827 for the box tops that the students turned in during the 2014-2015 school year. Thank you for encouraging and reminding the students to bring in their box tops. The money will be used to pay for the West Goshen Way t-shirts.

A huge thank you to West Goshen Church of the Brethren who recently gave us a check for over $450 to put in our emergency fund for students and families. Some of this money has already been used to pay for a student’s glasses.

Reading Camp for 2nd grade students will start in February. This is an after school program where our students are paired up with a volunteer from the community to read with and play reading games. If you know of anyone that would like to volunteer for this program, please let me know. It is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10 to 4:00.
