Happy Sunday Panthers! Mindful March Is Here!

Happy Sunday Panthers! Mindful March Is Here!

Happy Sunday Panthers! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Here is what I do know, we just had another fantastic week at NPHS! Mindful March is a great way to celebrate the great things taking place at NP such as:

  • Our IB students celebrated International Week this past week culminating with an International Food Day on Friday
  • We had three outstanding performances from IB Theater, IB Dance, and our Tri-M Musicians
  • NPHS Stunt Cheer took first place in the Ventura County Invitational
  • We recognized our 9,11 and 12 grades students who made the honor roll during the first semester with a barbeque

There are many other things that we can highlight. The bigger point is that all students have the opportunity to get involved, establish those positive connections, and develop life-long skills that help them be the best human being possible. We are here to help get students pointed in the direction they are looking for. They need to take those important first steps of activity and action.

It is SPIRIT WEEK!!! Unfortunately the weather made us cancel our rally, but we are still going to make this week a giant Pizza Party!!! The theme is PIZZA! PIZZA! PIZZA! Join in the fun and participate in the spirit day dress ups and lunch time activities. There may be some free pizza to those who are participating. We also have our dance this Saturday. Make sure you buy your ticket before it's too late. See below under Activities Updates for all the details.

Day After Day! Day After Day!

We are now into the daily routine of going to class each day, turning in work, and studying. Now is the time to set our eyes on the prize and do our best in all of our classes each day. The suggestions and advice below have not changed. Go to your teachers, go to tutoring, go to the office hours, and finally set the time aside to stay on top of all your work and commitments.

  1. Students should be building a daily academic routine, as part of an overall time management plan.
  2. Attendance Matters! Being in class and Being on Time for each class each and every day is essential. Please assist in getting your kids to school on time. Wake them up earlier if you need, get them in a good evening routine so they sleep well, and finally please monitor your child's attendance and clear any absences
  3. Technology: Students need to bring a charged device to class each day in order to participate and be active members each day in the classroom. If they are having issues with their Chromebook: they should start by putting in a help ticket for technology and creating a ticket by clicking on this link: https://conejousd.incidentiq.com/ Once a ticket has been created students can go to the main office to fill out a form to get help from out IT department.
  4. Please remember that all students/families are financially responsible for the cost of a new Chromebook and charger if they need to be replaced. A Chromebook is considered a textbook that is checked out by our students.
  5. Parents can become an observer in CANVAS by following the directions in this link or contacting the counseling office for assistance. Observer Link: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Video-Guide/Canvas-Overview-for-Observers/ta-p/383797
  6. Students should be taking advantage of our in-person tutoring for students overseen by our NPHS teaching staff. CANVAS Course cards are available to all students. All they have to do is accept the invite to the course card that has all of the information.
  7. Students should be communicating with their teachers on a consistent basis with any questions, support needed, or access to content.
  8. We always recommend that students and parents should start with the teacher for questions related to courses students are taking.
  9. Students need to be participating in athletic teams, co-curricular groups, clubs, and interest groups that inspire them in order to find the right balance between school work and school involvement.
  10. Students are able to access our new Wellness Center which is staffed by mental health clinicians.

Please reach out to us if you need help or assistance. We are a phone call or email away. Please encourage your students to do their best each week! Have them prepared, on time, and focused for a final great week. Thank you again and as always We Are Better Together!

Volunteers and Food Donations Needed For Spring Dance

NPHS is hosting its Spring "A Night in Italy" Dance on Saturday, March 11 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

NPHS PFA is once again helping with refreshments for our students during the dance. We will be serving pre-packaged, individually wrapped snacks and ice water, and are asking for donated food items and help during the dance.

Due to continued Covid concerns, we can only accept store-bought and individually wrapped items; NO HOME-MADE ITEMS PLEASE.

** NO nuts or peanut butter!**

Your donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off Thursday, March 9th, or Friday, March 10th in the NPHS front office (7:15 am ~ 3:30 pm).

The Dance will be back inside the gym and we will need lots of volunteers to help out that evening with the water distribution station and refreshment area. The refreshment area may involve some light lifting (e.g. water bottles).

Thank you in advance for all your help; we couldn't do this without you!! Please click on the link below to sign up to donate and volunteer your time for the dance.

NPHS Art Show Is Coming!

The annual NPHS Art Show is coming to Newbury Park High School the week of March 13. The work of our talented students will be on display for students to see in the cafeteria. The art show is an opportunity for NP students to showcase their talents in a variety of mediums. Please click on the link below for more information.

Mindful March Is Here!

Let’s take the time to pause, breathe and really take in what’s all around us. This month take some time to look within. Learning to be more mindful and aware can do wonders for our well-being in all areas of life – like the way we eat, the things we notice, or our relationships. It helps us get in tune with our feelings and stops us from dwelling on the past or worrying about the future – so we get more out of the day-to-day. It can also help us identify what we’re grateful for, which has been proven to help boost your happiness levels

Big picture

Reporting Absences

  • If your student is going to classes for any reason, please call the attendance office at 805-499-3645. La linea en espanol 498-3676 ext. 4000. All absences must be reported to the school by the student's legal guardian. Emails from students are not acceptable to report student absences. Students who miss class are still responsible for any missed work from their teachers and must communicate with their teachers to receive all instructions on how to complete any missing assignments or assessments.

Excessive Absences (12 days of absence, excused or unexcused)

  • Students will be put on an attendance contract, may be required to appear at a SARB meeting, and may require a doctor’s note to excuse any future absences.

  • Truancy is defined as being absent without permissible clearance within 72 hours. 3 truancies will result in disciplinary action and may affect a student’s grade.

Tardies

In addition to our website: http://dev.nphs.org/ you can also find us on Facebook. Also, most student groups on campus have a Twitter account that will allow you to follow individual groups should you wish to do so. Our school has a great general Twitter feed that tweets lots of info about the school @NewburyParkHS. I have my own account where I'll tweet my own thoughts and observations about the school @NPPrincipal11. We are also on Instagram and Snapchat for everyone to follow us!
