MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 1/14-1/18
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
Last week, I talked about my focus on student learning, and on measuring learning, student by student, standard by standard. What kinds of things am I looking to see? Here are a few possibilities:
1) Small group plans that specific students are assigned to in response to data/assessments.
2) A spreadsheet/checklist like this.
3) A unit overview sheet like this. (3rd grade will share out their work with these in a couple weeks)
Format matters less than process. (For those of you that like hand-written check marks, that's OK by me =). The process criteria we're looking include:
- Formative checks are done throughout a unit so that small groups/reteaching can occur within the unit
- If a student doesn't get it on a formative check, we re-teach and check again.
- This work DOES NOT occur for each standard--just for those deemed promises or boulders.
- This assessment and subsequent re-teaching/extension drives our small groups/conferring, either (or both) in Tier 1 and/or Tiger Time.
We have examples of each of the above happening throughout our building. Keep up the good work! If you need support in finding a tracking method that works for you, please reach out to myself or Jenna.
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- Here is the link to the "Respect Bingo" card that your class must fill out to gain entry to the special assemblies. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bpQARSUrqMgeJrjWxxxb30IlgqoSC5QEeP_ZGctLKqw/edit?usp=sharing. Please create a copy, and you can type right into it!.
- The STAR window is open for grades 2-5 the month of January. I'm excited to see the progress our students have made! Please make plans to give it sometime during the month. We'll review data at our next data meetings (Scheduled Jan 29, 30, 31). Make sure you communicate testing dates with the Sped team so that accommodations can be provided per IEP.
- Remember, the EHSA budgets for field trips. Prior to charging kids for your next field trip, check with Holly to see how much money you have left!
Academic Language (EL) Corner
In addition to this, having students repeat key vocabulary and phrases aloud can be very effective. You can use a cue such as, "repeat after me -___," or "say it after me -___."
