Ok, so that's a pretty weak tribute to the William Carlos Williams poem, "The Red Wheelbarrow," but I hope I caught your attention. Scholastic Book Fair isn't kind of a big deal. It's a really big deal. SBF is the number one funding source for our school library. Hamilton Southeastern Schools provides around a dollar and a quarter per student for its libraries. That figure is not even enough to replace the number of lost and damaged materials each year.

All SBF purchases benefit the Brooks School library. This school year we want to build our collection of graphic novels and comics. These shelves are bare any given day, and the research is voluminous on their value with young readers.

Please consider visiting the book fair. If you're struggling to find titles with literary merit among the stacks of what I call merchandise, come find me! I'm glad to walk the fair with you. It would be my pleasure!

Spread the joy

What brought many of us to the teaching profession, in addition to the love of children, of course, is the love of children's books! And, as I always say, books make the best gifts! We've hijacked the new #Makerspace shelves to setup Teacher Wish Lists.

1. Find bin labeled with teacher name.

2. Choose a book from inside bin.

3. Write To/From on adhesive bookplate.

4. Attach adhesive bookplate to inside of book.

5. Deliver (or have Mrs. Patrick deliver for you) or save as a holiday gift!

Online book fair

Popular titles go fast, and we work with Scholastic Warehouse to replenish stock quickly ... but sometimes we can't replenish inventory due to the all the other book fairs taking place in Central Indiana at the same time.

Solution: shop the online book fair!
