New Business

Mask Policy - The Walpole School District is committed to providing a safe environment in schools during the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. The School Committee reviewed and discussed Policy EBCFA - Face Coverings. The Policy, with changes, was read by Chairperson Buckley. During this topic, citizen comments were provided by the following: Caitlin Benoit, Jessica Cullen, Paula Wiseman, Megan Falcone, Shantae Holmes, Beth Simpson, William Haferd, Nicole McCarthy, Liana Cosgrove, Kathy Nasson, and Olga Kauf. After hearing comments and discussing the policy, the School Committee unanimously voted to approve the revised Policy EBCFA - Face Coverings. Face Coverings will be required for all individuals in all school buildings and on school transportation.

2. School Opening - Dr. Gough and Kathi Garvin, District Nurse Leader, provided school opening protocols and the Walpole Public Schools approach to Refocus, Reimagine and Reconnect for the 2021-2022 school year. Please click here for more information.

3. Federal Funding Update - School Business Administrator Mr. Michael Friscia provided a summary of grants received, amounts, and what has been purchased with the grant. He also indicated other grants that are currently available.

Middle School Building Project

Mr. Breen indicated that he, Dr. Gough, and Mrs. Gallivan virtually attended the MSBA Board Meeting on Wednesday, August 25th, and he was pleased to announce the project was given final approval at that meeting. He stated that comparatively, Walpole appears to be among the better value at cost per square foot. The next step is to acquire and certify local approval. He reminded the public that there is plenty of information on the town's website and on the middle school project website here, which includes the timeline, design renderings, and project update archives. He encouraged the community to visit the webpage, start talking to each other about this project, and reach out to the middle school building project for any questions.
