PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Our second round of parent/teacher conferences are just around the corner. We don't have as many open spots for these conferences so you will receive a notice from your child's teacher next week if a conference is being requested. If you receive notice that the teacher is not requesting a meeting and you would like one, reach out to the teacher to set something up. Report cards will come home on March 15th.
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns you have regarding your child. Mrs. Michalski
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ABRAMS?
Notes from the Office
Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 6th, from 3:30 - 6:00 pm. Due to the limited amount of time available we do not schedule a conference with everyone. However, if you have any concerns or questions please feel free to call the school at (920) 826-5819.
Open Enrollment: This year’s Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 5th and April 30th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at https://dpi.wi.gov/oe If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office.
If your child is currently attending under Open Enrollment, it is not necessary to complete an application form; your child will remain an active student through 12th grade.
All Arts Day: On Thursday, April 19th, 2018 we will once again be presenting the “traditional” All Arts Day program where parent and community volunteers share their artistic talents with our students. It is a chance for students to see that art is all around them in a variety of forms. But to make it work, we need your help. Could you teach a small group of students how to take a good photograph? Scrapbook? Tie a fishing lure? Decorate a cake? Dance a polka? Make play-dough? The possibilities are endless, but we need about 25 volunteers to make the day work. Interested in being a presenter? Please contact the office (826-5819) for more information or to volunteer. Thanks.
4k Students! Pre-registration letters were sent out in February to families that have children eligible to attend 4k next fall. If you did not receive a letter and have a child that is eligible to attend 4k please call the office at 826-5819.

Classroom Chatter - Jump Rope for Heart Event
A long tradition continued as Abrams Elementary School students in Grades K through 5 recently took part in the bi-annual Jump Rope for Heart event for Physical Education. The event is designed to raise money for the American Heart Association, a charity that provides education, support, and research for those suffering from heart disease and stroke. The event was held on February 13th in the school gymnasium. A variety of stations kept the students active and enthused during this exciting event.
All students who were interested in raising money for the charity, asked for sponsors to donate money. As a result of hard work by the students and generosity by the families and community members, the school was able to raise $8,126.00 for the American Heart Association. Mrs. Rochon is proud to announce that with this amount, the students of Abrams/Little Suamico have raised a total of $73,988.00 since 1991. What a difference our community can make to support such a wonderful cause.
Our top six fundraisers are Dylan Schoenborn, Braden Holl, Hannah Nicholson, Logan Heimerl, Norah Jahnke, and Chase Baumler. As the student raising the most money, Dylan Schoenborn will have the gym named after him for the rest of this school year.
I would like to thank all of the teachers at Abrams for their flexibility with scheduling and assistance, family and community members for their generous support, and all of the parents who volunteered their time to help run this year's event. Without all of this help and support, the Abrams Jump Rope for Heart event would not have been able to be this successful!

Library News
Students in the 4th grade in Mr. Schroeder's class had the opportunity to use an educational video posting website to learn about what life is like in Alaska as part of their social studies curriculum. They watched videos on what students like to eat in Alaska, and they then made their own video replies about what we eat here in Wisconsin after some preparation in the classroom. Check out a few of the final products by going to www.flipgrid.com, and enter e2462d as the code to let you view the responses. Also, check back during the year with students to see other videos that will be posted by students in Mrs. Ingram's class that will teach people about the activities that people do for fun in Wisconsin!

to attend the Alexander Hamilton Symposium
Washington Middle School, Oconto Falls
Thursday, March 15, 2018 3:45-7:00 PM
Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s most visionary founding fathers, is with us every day, not only in our wallets, on the $10, but also in the republic’s most vital institutions. Alexander Hamilton was a visionary who foresaw the future of the nation that he helped build. He was an immigrant from the Caribbean, a disadvantaged orphan who became a war hero, a self-made man who rose to become a framer of the Constitution and architect of the American financial system, and an idealist who was killed at the age of 47 in a duel with Vice President Aaron Burr.
On March 15, seventh grade students at Washington Middle School in Oconto Falls will host a symposium at which students will present the life and accomplishments of this amazing individual. In addition, you will be able to view “Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America”--A traveling exhibition from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. This 7 panel exhibition is based on the New York Historical Society exhibition of the same name.
