Students having too much HW

By: Frank Picot

Do you believe that you could do hw for 7 different classes, be in school sports, spend time with your family, and maintain a healthy relationship with your friends? Kids in 2015 are being asked to do too much for homework. School boards need to require teachers to cut down the amount of hw they give a student each night. Students are starting to stress, lose sleep, and lose friends because they spend most of their time doing homework.
Some nights students stay up till 3 in the morning to finish homework that is due the next day. They stay up all night because they spend the entire day at school and then when they get home they have to do more school by doing homework. Students are getting detentions because they fall asleep in class. They cant stay awake because they are too tired from staying up last night. If there wasnt as much homework students could get a full nights sleep and be ready for school the next day.
Teachers assign a lot of homework to help the student understand better. It doesn't help if the student already knows how to do it. If they already know how to do it they feel as if they don need to do it and they don't and in the long run it lowers their grade. Some students grades could be much higher if homework wasn't necessary. Some people see it as a waist of time, If there is something due in a class and they understand and there is something due in a class they don't understand they will do the one they dont understand so they can do better in the class and the other grade will begin to fall.
Students are unable to bond with their families because they are in their room all the time doing homework. They cant go hang out with their siblings because they are too busy. Some kids skip dinner to finish homework. Parents are begining to get worried becasue their child is spending too much time alone.
If the kids cant get the work done at home then they will try to get answers from their classmates. If they get away with it the first time they will think its okay to do it. They might do it all the way through high school. Then if they did it in college and they got caught they could get expelled. What if them cheating in high school lead to them believing it was okay to do it in a relationship. If they cheat their way through a class then they won't actually learn anything and when the final comes for the class then they will fail it because they wont know what to do on it.

If students are required to focus on school all the time they will eventually lose all interest in doing anything related to school. Teens have very small attention spans and they cant focus on one thing for too long and they will just start doing something else. They will try their hardest to not have to do something if they have to do it for too long. Students want to be able to come home and relax after a long day after school not come home from school and have to do more school work.
The extra homework stress out some students alot. In some cases it stresses them to the point to where they might want to commit suicide, some might want to drop out so they dont have to worry about it anymore. Some kids come home from school every day and cry because they dont know how they are going to get through high school and be able to get into a college.
Although it helps some students, it doesnt help them all. Some students dont understand everything so well so the homework will help them study for a test or prepare for a quiz. Others will prepare for a test by just paying attention in class and they will understand what everything is. If homework wasnt apart of school some students would do fantastic and others will do terribly.
If i am at home and i dont know how to do the homework then i will get an f on it because no one will be able to help me. If my parents dont know how to help me then i cant do it because no one can help me. If i cant get in contact with my teacher then i wont be able to do it. If i cant do any of the homework then i will fail the class and have to retake it and go through the same process until i understand it.
To summarize schools need to cut down on the amount of homework given out because students are failing classes, loosing sleep, loosing friends, not being able to do sports, not being able to spend time with family, or have jobs. If classes required less hw then lots more students will graduate and the school will in turn look better because they have a high graduation rate.
