News from the desk of Mr. Papes
Dear Alto Families,
We are excited to offer a way to give back to Alto Elementary. On Monday, February 8th, we will be holding a Fundraiser to help benefit our students and staff. Our GAME ON! fundraiser, more specifically, will help with purchasing new P.E. equipment, special classroom projects and supplies, supplemental curricular purchases, future field trips, and teacher/staff appreciation. Please understand that this is not a high-pressure sale; it is aimed at our community that is looking for a way to help. Your students will have the ability to earn prizes as well!
A few things to note:
- This fundraiser will be very easy for you. It only requires about 10 minutes of your time.
- Your students are going to earn great prizes, just for their effort. No money required!
- This is an online, donation-based fundraiser, and the donation requests can go to people you know anywhere in the world. That means, no direct pressure on your shoulders.
Students will be bringing home more information on Monday February 8th, after our Virtual Kickoff Assembly. Please help your student register and complete the Golden Ticket assignment on Monday night! All students who complete the Golden Ticket assignment will receive fun PRIZES, and it does not require any money to register. We will also be doing some fun drawings for an iPad and a Mini Party Fridge stuffed with CASH!
I will be sending a few more emails throughout the two-week fundraising period. Please contact me directly if you have any questions.
Thank you in advance for your support of Alto Elementary!
Sincerely,
Paul Papes

P.E. Happenings with Mr. McLeod!
It’s seems unreal to look at the calendar and see that we are only days away from February. I know that some of us are eager for the warmer temperatures that spring brings, but I am like a kid in a candy store with the cold weather and snow. Cross country skiing, pond hockey, and building snow forts are just a few of the activities I love to partake in with my family this time of year. I hope you can all find a way to enjoy this weather as well.
Our kindergarten through fifth grade students just finished their gymnastics unit last week and I was blown away by the all-around athleticism I witnessed. These students are fearless, determined, and utterly destroyed my expectations for them with tumbling, vaulting, and balancing. If you haven’t signed them up for gymnastics yet, you may want to reconsider.
The combination of the Wittenbach Wege Center loaning us snowshoes and a snowstorm allowed us to take up snowshoeing this week. I can’t emphasize enough the love, hate responses I got from this unit. Students either relished the opportunity or wanted to physically destroy the snowshoes for inflicting the pain of a workout on them.
Next week we will be starting our two-week lacrosse unit. This is a unit new to PE that we are very excited to bring to Alto. The completion of our lacrosse unit will take us to floor hockey and basketball. We have a very fun month ahead of us!
Please make sure to send your student with appropriate athletic shoes on physical education days. Stay healthy, keep active, and don’t forget to play in the snow!
Mark your calendar!
