A Principal's Perspective
I heard a quote this week and have really thought about its application to our work at GP. "What is important will always be pushed aside for the urgent!" To accomplish our mission for each of our students, it requires us to focus on our longterm goals and actively monitor our "urgent" matters so that they don't get in the way of meeting our longterm objectives. What seems to be urgent to me at the time upon reflection may not make a significant contribution to the longterm goals of GP . At the end of some days as I reflect upon my day, I find that if my day was filled with "urgent" matters, I find myself not fulfilled about my accomplishments/contributions for the day. On days when I focus on what truly matters (teacher conversations, getting in the classrooms, teaching, working with kids, planning with grade levels, celebrating successes, etc), I find that I am proud of the day's accomplishments and remember why I love my profession so much. When thinking about your day, you may have felt this way too. How tremendous would it be if collectively we as a staff focus on what is important and push aside the seemingly "urgent" details that can hinder our success? When I focus my work on the important details that will help me contribute to our school's mission , I Matter!

News & Notes
* Jean Fundraiser - From Morgan Gibbs: Do you like to wear jeans? Do you like to give back? Well listen up! The Junior League of Bryan-College Station is participating in a movement called Tampon Tuesday. Tampon Tuesday originated in London when a group of women discovered that many women were having to go without feminine products due to the financial strain, and, unfortunately, that problem is world wide. Feminine products are the LEAST donated item, and they are NOT covered by financial assistance programs. We are collecting feminine hygiene items to donate to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, and we want YOUR help! Bring a box of any type of feminine hygiene product to school before Tuesday, February 2, and be able to wear JEANS on Wednesday, February 3rd. You can drop your products off to Morgan Gibbs in room 501, and to receive your jean pass. Thanks!
* Visitors: Please remind your students NOT to open outside doors to visitors. All visitors should enter through the front doors. Our students are so polite and respectful, it is second nature for them to open a door. But in this case, we need to remind them that safety comes first!
