Information from Your Math Coach – Elaine Ragley
Spring has Sprung! The importance of instruction over the next 29 days is vital. What keeps students motivated is a motivated, passionate teacher. If we continue to show a passion for learning, our students will continue to learn. Instruction needs to continue to be student-centered with the teacher acting as the facilitator, guiding and directing the learning process.
Finishing Strong – i-Ready Instruction Accelerates Student Growth
Students who received the recommended levels of i-Ready Instruction experienced a 38% greater gain for mathematics. The latest study showed significant score gains across key student groups (students with disabilities, economically disadvantaged students, ELL students and non-Caucasian students.)
Spring Diagnostic is Approaching – What are you going to do to make certain your students are benefiting from i-Ready Instruction?

Updates from Ms. Keeley
iReady Math
Congratulations to Ms. Vega's Kindergarten class with 94% of her students meeting their iReady minutes with a 71% pass rate.
Congratulations to Ms. Nexbitt's First Grade class with 100% of her students meeting their iReady minutes with an 83% pass rate.
If you haven't already, please make sure to do the donors choose for the headphones especially as the Spring diagnostic is approaching quickly. Let's set our students up for success.
XtraMath
Thank you to Ms. Barth, Ms. E. Gonzalez, and Ms. Nesbitt for sharing their XtraMath accounts with me. Warrior wampums will be in your box. Please make sure to do this so we can work together to increase fluency. This is a district wide initiative.
Updates from Ms. Van Brimmer
Ms. Emerson has challenged our school to read 8 million words in April and we are well on our way! Ms. Craner's 4th graders continue to dominate with almost half a million words read already!
Here are the top leaders in our school for April:
4-Craner -- 586,945
5-A. Patterson -- 378,223
5-Hill -- 368,487
3-T. Robinson -- 310,793
2-Singewald/Smith -- 488,827
PLEASE remind our students that our PTA is giving away free Kindle Fires to the student at each grade level who reads the most words. The deadline for this contest is on May 18!
Conferring with readers
As Dr. Bobby Moore reminded us during his visit, independent reading is only successful when teachers are conferring with their students. As we continue on our journey to becoming a culture of readers and writers, here are a few questions to get you started on student conferences.
- Show/tell about a part of what you just read that was confusing to you.
- What are some connections you made while reading?
- What is the main problem in the book?
- What do you notice about the author's writing?
- What are some questions you had while reading?
- Read me a part that stood out to you/that you liked.

Running Club Updates from Ms. Canevari
Beginning next week, running club members will only be welcome on their specific grade day. I am getting way too many students out there to be able to supervise by myself. Please remind them of the correct day. I will also post the schedule on the cafeteria door.
One exception is next week during testing, 4th grade will be allowed to come on Friday but not on Thursday.
