Hawk Highlights
April 23, 2021
Dear Families and Friends of the Hollys,
May 3 – 7 is our superhero-themed staff appreciation week! We will take the week to honor and celebrate the “Hollys Superheroes” from the classroom to the cafeteria. During this unprecedented time, our teachers and staff members have conquered uncertainty, change and challenge. I am incredibly proud of their perseverance and dedication. They championed in-person learning and shifted to remote learning throughout the year with flexibility, grace and unwavering love for our students. Because of their hard work and inspiration, our Holly Hawks reached new heights in learning and relationships this school year. I am forever grateful for all that our superhero teachers and staff members do to support our Hollys nest. I encourage community members and students to take a moment to recognize a staff member during staff appreciation week. You can write a note of thanks. Record a message in SeeSaw. Send a staff member an artistic creation. Make a poster. Send a sweet treat or flower. Choose any simple gesture to let a staff member know you care. Thank you for your consideration.
All of you have taken on some level of teaching in your homes as you guided your children through periods of remote learning over the past year. THANK YOU for all that you have done to contribute to the education of your children. The entire staff at the Hollys appreciates you! You are all teachers, too. It has been a blessing to have such a wonderful community to support the journey.
We are about to embark on the season of testing. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 across Colorado take the state’s standardized tests “Colorado Measures of Academic Success” (CMAS) in science, social studies, math, and language arts. The computer-based tests will ask students to answer a variety of questions, show their work and explain their reasoning. They will assess critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. These tests also assess the knowledge and skills all students need for the careers of tomorrow. This includes the ability to communicate effectively, apply math to real world situations, critically analyze literature and informational texts, and demonstrate problem-solving techniques. Please see the assessment schedule for upcoming dates and times. We begin testing Monday.
In other news, a Colorado neighborhood was named one of the best places to live in the United States! That’s right, it was our neighborhood. Holly Hills was named one of the best places to live for the second year in row. In case you did not catch the Denver Post article, I have included the link here. Congratulations, Holly Hills!

We value your partnership in education and appreciate all your efforts to promote student success at the Hollys. Thanks for all you do at home to nourish strong character, too. Our community is terrific!
Together in education,
Molly Drvenkar
