Getting To Know Your Ministry
The Things We Left Behind
Think about the last time someone made you upset usually the response would be if this were 5 years ago… Many times when things happen to us and people cross us the wrong way, we revert back to how we use to be instead of who we are now. As believers of Christ we all have accepted Jesus into our lives and said He is Lord of our lives. That statement right there seems easy, but sometimes its not so simple. We go through our day to day lives and we forget that we have a Savior to fight every battle and take care of every need. It is our human nature to depend on the fight or flight instinct. When something happens we tend to react quickly and go into survival mode. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says that if you are in Christ you are a new creation. In this context new indicates your change of character, your identity, and your way of life. So ask yourself, if you are a new creation why are you reflecting your old ways? The day you accepted Jesus into your life the old you died. Therefore when things happen your response should be to pray, seek God, and fast. These are the things that Jesus did and our life should reflect Him.
I encourage you today to let go of those things that you used as a defense mechanism and allow God to be your defense mechanism. Though it will not be easy and you will have to submit and die to your flesh daily, the end goal is that you resemble Christ. It is true that we should not forget where we came from, because our testimony is evidence of how God can perform miracles and how we became a victorious people. So instead of boasting on what we used to do, those things we left behind should no longer define who we are because Christ defines us. Our life now is a testimony to the non-believers.
